DORZOX EYE DROP 5 ML

Name

  • Common Name: Dorzox Eye Drop
  • Brand Name: Dorzox by Cipla Ltd.

Composition

  • Active Ingredient: Dorzolamide (2% w/v)
  • Preservative: Benzalkonium Chloride (0.0075%)

Uses

Dorzox Eye Drop is prescribed for the management of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in various eye conditions. Its primary uses include:

  • Open-angle glaucoma: An eye condition where increased pressure within the eye can damage the optic nerve.
  • Ocular hypertension: Characterized by higher-than-normal pressure inside the eye, which, if left untreated, can lead to glaucoma and vision loss.

This medication works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor, the fluid inside the eye, thereby lowering the intraocular pressure and helping to prevent damage to the optic nerve and subsequent vision loss.

Dosage and Administration

  • Typical Dosage: One drop in the affected eye(s) two to three times daily, or as advised by a physician.
  • Administration:
    • Wash hands thoroughly before use.
    • Tilt the head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
    • Hold the dropper above the eye without touching it and gently squeeze out one drop.
    • Close the eye for 1-2 minutes and apply gentle pressure to the corner of the eye near the nose to prevent the liquid from draining out.
    • Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, including the eye or eyelids, to avoid contamination.
    • If using other topical ophthalmic medications, wait at least 5-15 minutes between applications.
    • Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

Side Effects

Commonly reported side effects include:

  • Stinging or burning sensation in the eyes.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Eyelid inflammation or redness/itching in the eyes.
  • Bitter, sour, or unusual taste in the mouth (taste perversion).
  • Superficial punctate keratitis (tiny spots or damage on the eye surface).

Some individuals may also experience headaches, nausea, or tiredness. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult a doctor.

Precautions

  • Allergies: Do not use if allergic to Dorzolamide, sulfonamides, or benzalkonium chloride.
  • Medical Conditions:
    • Use with caution in patients with liver problems.
    • Not recommended for patients with severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min).
    • Caution is advised for patients with pre-existing chronic corneal defects and/or a history of intraocular surgery due to an increased risk of corneal edema.
    • Patients with a prior history of renal calculi (kidney stones) may be at increased risk of urolithiasis.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor if pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Dorzox Eye Drop is not recommended during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the infant.
  • Driving and Machinery: This medicine may cause temporary blurring of vision; avoid driving or operating machinery until vision is clear.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications, especially oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., acetazolamide, methazolamide) and high-dose salicylates (e.g., aspirin), as concurrent use may increase the risk of acid-base and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Other Eye Medications: Do not use other eye medications concurrently unless specifically advised by your doctor.
  • Discontinuation: Do not stop using Dorzox Eye Drop abruptly without consulting a doctor, as this can lead to uncontrolled eye pressure and potential vision damage.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature, below 25°C, or between 10ºC to 25ºC/below 30ºC.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and moisture.
  • Ensure the bottle is tightly closed after each use to prevent contamination.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children and pets.
  • Discard the solution if it changes color, turns cloudy, or contains particles.
  • Use the contents within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
Frequently asked questions

Here are the frequently asked questions about DORZOX EYE DROP 5 ML:

What is Dorzox Eye Drop used for?

Dorzox Eye Drop is primarily used to lower high pressure inside the eyes. This elevated pressure can be caused by conditions such as open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension, which, if left untreated, can lead to damage to the optic nerve and potential vision loss.

How does Dorzox Eye Drop work?

Dorzox Eye Drop contains dorzolamide, which is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor, the fluid inside the eye. By reducing the amount of this fluid, the eye drop effectively lowers intraocular pressure.

What is the usual dosage of Dorzox Eye Drop?

The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) two to three times daily, as advised by your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of Dorzox Eye Drop?

Common side effects include a stinging or burning sensation in the eyes, blurred vision, a bitter taste in the mouth, eyelid inflammation, eye redness or itching, headache, nausea, and tiredness. If blurred vision occurs or other sight changes for a time, avoid driving until your vision is clear.

Is Dorzox Eye Drop safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: Dorzox Eye Drop may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have indicated harmful effects on the developing baby, so it's crucial to consult your doctor to weigh the benefits against potential risks. Breastfeeding: Dorzox Eye Drop is generally considered probably safe to use during breastfeeding, as limited human data suggests it does not pose a significant risk to the baby. To further minimize exposure to the infant, you can apply pressure over the corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute after instilling the drop, and then remove any excess solution with a tissue.

Can Dorzox Eye Drop be taken with other medications?

Caution is advised when using Dorzox Eye Drop with oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (like acetazolamide or methazolamide) or high-dose salicylates (such as aspirin), as this may increase the risk of acid-base and electrolyte imbalances. If you are using multiple topical eye medications, wait at least 5 to 15 minutes between applications to prevent dilution of the medicine.

What precautions should be taken while using Dorzox Eye Drop?

Remove contact lenses before applying Dorzox Eye Drop and wait at least 15 minutes before re-inserting them. Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, including your eye, to avoid contamination. Inform your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver problems, a sulfa allergy, or conditions affecting your heart, respiratory system, or diabetes. Do not stop using the medicine without consulting your doctor, as this could lead to uncontrolled eye pressure and potential vision damage.

What happens if a dose of Dorzox Eye Drop is missed?

If you miss a dose, instill it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should Dorzox Eye Drop be stored?

Store Dorzox Eye Drop at room temperature, ideally below 25°C or 30°C, and keep it away from direct light and moisture. Ensure the bottle is tightly closed after each use to prevent exposure to air. Keep the medicine out of reach of children. Discard the solution if it changes color, turns cloudy, or contains particles. Use the solution within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
