Description
SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE (15 CAP) by CIPLA LTD.
Name
- Brand Name: Silofast 4 MG Capsule
- Common Name: Silodosin
Composition Silofast 4 MG Capsule contains 4 mg of Silodosin as its active ingredient.
Uses Silofast 4 MG Capsule is prescribed for the treatment of symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men, a condition characterized by an enlarged prostate gland. It helps alleviate urinary problems such as difficulty in passing urine, frequent urination (including at night), a weak urine stream, urinary dribbling, a strong urge to urinate, and the sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. This medication works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate, bladder neck, and urethra to improve urine flow.
Dosage and Administration Take Silofast 4 MG Capsule orally once daily with a meal, or as advised by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water; do not crush, chew, or break it. It is recommended to take the medicine at the same time each day for optimal results. For patients with moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance 30-50 mL/min), a reduced dose of 4 mg once daily with a meal may be prescribed.
Side Effects Common side effects may include retrograde ejaculation (orgasm with reduced or no semen), dizziness, postural hypotension (a drop in blood pressure upon standing), headache, diarrhea, nasal congestion, nasopharyngitis, and blurred vision. Most of these effects are temporary and usually resolve over time.
Precautions Silofast 4 MG Capsule is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Silodosin, severe kidney disease (CrCl <30 mL/min), or severe liver disease (Child-Pugh score ≥10). It should also not be taken with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin) or strong P-glycoprotein inhibitors (e.g., cyclosporine). This medicine can cause dizziness or fainting due to a drop in blood pressure; therefore, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase dizziness. Inform your doctor if you have a history of low blood pressure or are scheduled for cataract surgery, as it may lead to Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).
Storage Store Silofast 4 MG Capsules below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions about SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE
What is SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE used for?
SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE is primarily used to relieve the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men. BPH is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that can cause urinary problems. This medication helps manage symptoms such as difficulty starting urination, weak urine flow, frequent urination (including at night), the persistent sensation of incomplete bladder emptying, and urgent urges to urinate.
How does SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE work?
SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE contains silodosin, which is a selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor antagonist. It works by blocking alpha-1A adrenoreceptors found in the prostate, bladder base, bladder neck, and prostatic urethra. This blockade causes the smooth muscles in these tissues to relax, which reduces bladder outlet resistance, improves urine flow, and alleviates the urinary symptoms associated with BPH.
What is the usual dosage for SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE?
The recommended dose of SILOFAST is typically 8 mg once daily, taken orally with a meal. However, for patients with moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance 30-50 mL/min), the dose should be reduced to 4 mg once daily with a meal. It's crucial to follow your doctor's specific instructions regarding dosage and duration.
What are the possible side effects of SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE?
Common side effects of SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE include retrograde ejaculation (orgasm with reduced or no semen), dizziness, diarrhea, headache, orthostatic hypotension (a drop in blood pressure upon standing, which can cause dizziness), nasopharyngitis, and nasal congestion. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE is not indicated for use in women and should not be taken by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby, but limited human studies exist.
Can SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE be taken with other medications?
SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE can interact with other medications. It is contraindicated with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin, itraconazole, ritonavir) and strong P-glycoprotein inhibitors (e.g., cyclosporine) as these can significantly increase silodosin levels. Concomitant use with other alpha-blockers or PDE5 inhibitors (used for erectile dysfunction) is not recommended due to the potential for symptomatic hypotension. Exercise caution when taking it with antihypertensive medications, as it may increase the incidence of dizziness and orthostatic hypotension. Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking.
What precautions should be taken with SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE?
Patients should be cautioned about potential dizziness and orthostatic hypotension, especially when starting treatment. It is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase dizziness. Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, as dosage adjustments may be needed or the medicine may be contraindicated in severe cases. If you are scheduled for cataract surgery, inform your ophthalmologist about taking SILOFAST, due to the possibility of Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you miss a dose of SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
How should SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE be stored?
SILOFAST 4 MG CAPSULE should be stored below 30°C in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
