Description

Here is a detailed product description for IOBRIM EYE DROP 5 ML by FDC LIMITED:

IOBRIM EYE DROP 5 ML

  • Name: IOBRIM EYE DROP. It is also referred to as Iobrim 0.2% Eye Drops or Iobrim 2mg Eye Drop.
  • Composition: Each ml contains Brimonidine 0.2% w/v (or Brimonidine Tartrate 0.20% w/w). Some formulations may also include Benzalkonium Chloride (0.005 %).
  • Uses: IOBRIM EYE DROP is primarily used to treat ocular hypertension (high pressure in the eye) and glaucoma. It works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor (fluid in the eye) and increasing its outflow, thereby reducing intraocular pressure. This helps to lower high eye pressure, reduce the risk of vision loss, and prevent optic nerve damage, which are complications of glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
  • Dosage and Administration:
    • IOBRIM EYE DROP is for external use only.
    • The typical dosage is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Some sources mention up to 3 times daily.
    • Before application, wash your hands thoroughly.
    • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before instilling the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
    • Tilt your head back slightly and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
    • Hold the dropper above your eye without touching the tip to your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
    • Squeeze the bottle gently to release one drop into the pocket.
    • Close your eye gently for 1 to 2 minutes, avoiding blinking or rubbing.
    • If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes between applications to prevent dilution.
    • For best results, use it daily in the evening or at night.
    • Do not stop using the medicine abruptly, as this may lead to an increase in eye pressure.
    • Use the eye drops within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
  • Side Effects:
    • Common side effects: Allergic conjunctivitis, burning sensation, conjunctival inflammation, conjunctival hyperemia (redness of the eye), eye itching, allergic reaction in the eye, dry mouth, visual disturbance/blurred vision, watery eyes, irritation, abnormal taste, headache, sleepiness, fatigue, foreign body sensation, dizziness, light intolerance, blepharitis, and eye discharge. Most of these side effects are usually temporary and resolve over time.
  • Precautions:
    • IOBRIM EYE DROP is not recommended for children below 17 years of age, as its safety and efficacy in this age group have not been established. Some sources mention not for use in children below two years.
    • Caution should be exercised in patients with severe cardiovascular diseases, depression, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, and those with pre-existing liver or kidney problems.
    • Due to the possibility of blurred vision, drowsiness, or fatigue, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until your vision is clear and you feel alert.
    • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. While animal studies have shown harmful effects, limited human data suggests the drug might be safe during breastfeeding with precautions like applying pressure to the inner corner of the eye to reduce systemic absorption.
    • The interaction with alcohol is unknown, but it may cause increased drowsiness.
    • Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as IOBRIM EYE DROP may interact with CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, barbiturates, opiates, sedatives, anesthetics), ophthalmic and systemic beta-blockers, antihypertensives, cardiac glycosides, and TCAs.
    • Avoid use if you have known hypersensitivity to brimonidine tartrate or any component of the medication.
  • Storage: Store below 30°C in a cool and dry place. Protect from light and moisture, and keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about IOBRIM EYE DROP 5 ML:

What is IOBRIM EYE DROP used for?

IOBRIM EYE DROP is primarily used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in individuals with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. By reducing eye pressure, it helps prevent or slow down the progression of optic nerve damage and subsequent vision loss.

How does IOBRIM EYE DROP work?

IOBRIM EYE DROP contains Brimonidine tartrate, an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It works through a dual mechanism: firstly, it decreases the production of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye), and secondly, it increases the outflow of this fluid through the uveoscleral pathway, thereby reducing intraocular pressure.

What is the usual dosage of IOBRIM EYE DROP?

The typical dosage is one drop instilled into the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, or as advised by your doctor. It is intended for ophthalmic use only. For some conditions, it might be prescribed up to three times daily.

What are the possible side effects of IOBRIM EYE DROP?

Common side effects can include blurred vision, eye irritation, dryness, itching, redness, a burning sensation, and a sensation of foreign particles in the eyes. Other possible side effects include dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, sleepiness, headache, and intolerance to light. Most of these side effects are usually mild and temporary.

Is IOBRIM EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

IOBRIM EYE DROP should be used with caution during pregnancy, and only if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. It is generally not recommended during breastfeeding as it may harm the baby and can induce apnea and central nervous system depression in a breastfeeding infant. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can IOBRIM EYE DROP be taken with other medications?

Caution is advised when using IOBRIM EYE DROP with certain medications. It should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) due to the risk of serious side effects like a significant drop in blood pressure. Concomitant use with central nervous system depressants (like alcohol, barbiturates, opiates, sedatives) can increase drowsiness and dizziness. Use with caution alongside medications for high blood pressure (antihypertensives) and cardiac glycosides, as Brimonidine can also lower blood pressure. If using other eye medications, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications to prevent dilution or interaction.

What precautions should be taken when using IOBRIM EYE DROP?

Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after use. IOBRIM EYE DROP can cause blurred vision, drowsiness, or fatigue, so exercise caution when driving or operating machinery until your vision is clear and you feel alert. It is not recommended for children under 2 years of age, and should be used with caution in children over 2 years. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing conditions like depression, heart, liver, or kidney problems.

What happens if a dose of IOBRIM EYE DROP is missed?

If you miss a dose, administer it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

How should IOBRIM EYE DROP be stored?

IOBRIM EYE DROP should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, and protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of sight and reach of children. It is important to use the medication within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
