Frequently asked questions
AMAZEO 200 Tablet, manufactured by Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd, contains Amisulpride and is primarily an antipsychotic medication.
What is Amazeo 200 Tablet used for?
Amazeo 200 Tablet is primarily used to treat long-term (chronic) schizophrenia, a mental disorder characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and impaired thinking and behavior. It is also used to prevent and treat postoperative nausea and vomiting.
How does Amazeo 200 Tablet work?
Amazeo 200 Tablet contains Amisulpride, an antipsychotic that works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. Its key action is to block some of the dopamine D2 receptors in the brain, correcting dopamine overactivity which is associated with conditions like schizophrenia. Additionally, it influences other brain neurotransmitters such as serotonin. For nausea and vomiting, it blocks D2 receptors located in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the brain, which is responsible for inducing vomiting.
What is the usual dosage for Amazeo 200 Tablet?
The dosage of Amazeo 200 Tablet is determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and response to treatment. It can be taken with or without food, often preferably before bedtime, and it is advised to take it at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not crushed, chewed, or broken.
What are the possible side effects of Amazeo 200 Tablet?
Common side effects may include dry mouth, constipation, weight gain, decreased blood pressure, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, insomnia, and erectile dysfunction. Some individuals may also experience involuntary muscle contractions such as dystonia, akathisia, or parkinsonism, and increased prolactin levels in the blood. More serious but less common side effects can include an irregular heart rhythm (QT prolongation) and an increased risk of blood clots.
Is Amazeo 200 Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Amazeo 200 Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy as animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing fetus, and it may be unsafe for use. It is also not recommended for use by breastfeeding mothers, as it may be excreted into breast milk and potentially harm the newborn. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
Can Amazeo 200 Tablet be taken with other medications?
Amazeo 200 Tablet can interact with several medications. It is not recommended to take it with certain drugs that can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm, such as Cisapride, Mesoridazine, Saquinavir, and Dronedarone. It may also interact with other antipsychotics, dopamine agonists (e.g., ropinirole, bromocriptine), antiarrhythmic agents (e.g., quinidine, amiodarone), certain blood pressure medications (e.g., Diltiazem), and narcotic pain relievers (e.g., Tramadol). Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase dizziness and drowsiness. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
What precautions should be taken while using Amazeo 200 Tablet?
Do not take Amazeo 200 Tablet if you are allergic to Amisulpride or any of its ingredients. It is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. Use with caution in elderly patients over 65 years due to an increased risk of side effects. Inform your doctor if you have conditions such as breast cancer, pheochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumor), pituitary gland prolactinoma, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, seizure disorders, kidney or heart problems, or low potassium levels. Since this medicine can cause dizziness and drowsiness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. To prevent a sudden drop in blood pressure, rise slowly when standing up from a sitting or lying position.
What happens if a dose of Amazeo 200 Tablet is missed?
If you miss a dose of Amazeo 200 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. It is crucial not to stop taking this medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation can worsen your condition or lead to withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sweating, difficulty sleeping, restlessness, muscle stiffness, or abnormal movements. Your doctor will advise on a gradual reduction of the dose.
How should Amazeo 200 Tablet be stored?
Amazeo 200 Tablet should be stored below 30°C or at room temperature. It is important to keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
