Description
ABEVIA 100MG CAPSULE
ABEVIA 100MG CAPSULE is a medication prescribed for various respiratory conditions, helping to ease breathing difficulties. Manufactured by Mankind Pharma Ltd., it is designed to relax airways and clear mucus.
-
Name: Abevia 100mg Capsule. (Commonly referred to as Abevia-100 Capsule)
-
Composition: Each capsule contains 100mg of Acebrophylline.
-
Uses: ABEVIA 100MG CAPSULE is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of symptoms associated with:
- Asthma
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Bronchitis
It functions as a bronchodilator by relaxing the muscles around the airways, thereby widening them for easier breathing. It also acts as a mucolytic agent, thinning and loosening phlegm and mucus in the lungs, windpipe, and nose, making it easier to cough out.
-
Dosage and Administration: This medicine should be taken orally as advised by your doctor, preferably in the evening after food. Take it at the same time each day for the most benefit. The dose and frequency depend on the condition being treated. Do not miss doses, and if a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, or skip it and continue with the regular schedule if it's almost time for the next dose. It is not for immediate relief of sudden breathing problems, so a fast-acting inhaler should always be kept available.

Frequently asked questions
ABEVIA 100MG CAP is a medication primarily used to manage respiratory conditions such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It contains Acebrophylline, which helps to ease breathing by acting on the airways.
What is ABEVIA 100MG CAP used for?
ABEVIA 100MG CAP is used to prevent and treat symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults. These conditions involve narrowed airways, excess mucus production, and difficulty breathing.
How does ABEVIA 100MG CAP work?
This medicine works in two main ways: as a bronchodilator and as a mucolytic agent. It relaxes the muscles around the airways, which widens them and makes breathing easier. Additionally, it thins and loosens mucus (phlegm) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose, making it easier to cough up and clear from the airways. It also has anti-inflammatory properties in the airways.
What is the usual dosage?
The dosage and how often you take ABEVIA 100MG CAP depend on your specific condition and its severity, as determined by your doctor. It is typically taken orally, often with food in the evening, and at the same time each day to maximize benefits. Do not change or exceed the prescribed dose without consulting your doctor.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, headache, restlessness, insomnia, dizziness, heartburn, loss of appetite, skin rash, or drowsiness. Most side effects are usually temporary and resolve on their own, but if they persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Caution is advised for pregnant women, and ABEVIA 100MG CAP is generally not recommended during pregnancy. For breastfeeding women, it should only be used if absolutely necessary and under a doctor's advice, as it is not known if it passes into breast milk. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can it be taken with other medications?
ABEVIA 100MG CAP can interact with certain medications. Inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking. Particular caution is needed if you are taking medicines for high blood pressure, heart failure, high cholesterol, blood thinners, anti-infectives, anti-diabetics, other anti-asthmatics, pain killers, immunomodulatory medicines, or medicines for brain-related disorders. Combining it with diuretics like furosemide can decrease potassium levels.
What precautions should be taken?
You should inform your doctor if you have any history of heart diseases (e.g., low blood pressure, irregular heart rate, hypertension, or a recent heart attack), kidney or liver diseases, peptic ulcers, seizure disorders, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), or viral infections. ABEVIA 100MG CAP is contraindicated if you are allergic to acebrophylline, ambroxol, theophylline, or other xanthine derivatives.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you miss a dose of ABEVIA 100MG CAP, take it as soon as you remember. However, if your next dose is due soon, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
How should it be stored?
ABEVIA 100MG CAP should be stored in a cool, dry place, typically below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
