ARPTIZ TAB by TRIPADA HEALTHCARE

  • Name: ARPTIZ TAB (also known as Aptiz Tablet or Apetiz Tablet)

  • Composition: The active ingredient in ARPTIZ TAB is Cyproheptadine (4mg).

  • Uses: ARPTIZ TAB is primarily used to treat various allergic conditions, relieving symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, and hives. It blocks the action of natural substances like histamine and serotonin, which are responsible for allergic reactions. Additionally, it acts as an appetite stimulant and is used to treat loss of appetite, promoting a desire to eat and aiding in managing undernutrition or malnutrition. It can also be used for conditions like allergic rhinitis, angioedema, and allergies to insect stings.

  • Dosage and Administration: Take ARPTIZ TAB as directed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. Swallow the tablet as a whole; do not cut, break, or chew it. The dosage depends on age, weight, medical condition, and response to treatment. For adults with hypersensitivity reactions, a typical initial dose is 4 mg orally every 8 hours, with maintenance doses ranging from 4-20 mg/day, not exceeding 0.5 mg/kg/day. For children aged 2-6 years, the dosage is usually 2 mg orally every 8-12 hours, not exceeding 12 mg/day, and for children 7-14 years, 4 mg orally every 8-12 hours, not exceeding 16 mg/day.

  • Side Effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, fatigue, nervousness, increased appetite, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, arthralgia, and pharyngitis. More serious side effects can include mental/mood changes (such as restlessness, confusion, hallucinations), shaking (tremors), difficult or painful urination, and fast/irregular heartbeats.

  • Precautions:

    • Avoid consuming alcohol with ARPTIZ TAB as it may increase drowsiness and side effects.
    • This medicine may cause dizziness and sleepiness; avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you do not feel well or are unable to be alert.
    • Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, bronchial asthma, thyroid problems, increased pressure inside the eye, kidney, stomach, or intestinal problems, or difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland.
    • Do not use if you are allergic to cyproheptadine or other ingredients, have stomach ulcers, narrow-angle glaucoma, or are unable to urinate.
    • Exercise caution in elderly patients (above 60 years) as they may be more prone to side effects like dizziness, giddiness, and trouble breathing.
    • It should not be used in newborn or premature infants. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 2 years of age.
    • Pregnant women can take it without much concern, but breastfeeding women may experience side effects and should consult a doctor.
  • Storage: Store at room temperature. It can be exposed to temperatures between 15°C and 30°C for shorter periods. Store in a cool, dry place.

Frequently asked questions

ARPTIZ TAB (Cyproheptadine) FAQs

ARPTIZ TAB, commonly referred to as Aptiz or Apetiz Tablet, contains Cyproheptadine as its active ingredient. It is primarily used to treat allergic conditions and to stimulate appetite.

1. What is ARPTIZ TAB used for?

ARPTIZ TAB is mainly used to treat various allergic conditions, such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, hives, and skin reactions like urticaria. It is also utilized as an appetite stimulant, promoting hunger, and can help improve nutritional status in individuals with loss of appetite or malnutrition.

2. How does ARPTIZ TAB work?

ARPTIZ TAB is an antihistamine medication. It works by blocking the action of certain chemical messengers in the body, specifically histamine and serotonin, which are responsible for inflammation, congestion, itching, and other allergic reactions. By blocking serotonin in the hypothalamus, it also helps to stimulate appetite.

3. What is the usual dosage for ARPTIZ TAB?

The dosage of ARPTIZ TAB varies depending on the condition being treated, age, and individual response. For allergic reactions, adults might typically start with 4 mg orally every 8 hours, with a maintenance dose of 4-20 mg/day, not exceeding 0.5 mg/kg/day or 32 mg/day. For children aged 2-6 years, the dosage might be 2 mg every 8-12 hours, not exceeding 12 mg/day, and for children 7-14 years, 4 mg every 8-12 hours, not exceeding 16 mg/day. When used as an appetite stimulant, doses for adults and children over 13 years might start at 2 mg every 6 hours. It's crucial to follow your doctor's specific instructions.

4. What are the possible side effects of ARPTIZ TAB?

Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, headache, and fatigue. More serious, though less common, side effects can include mental/mood changes (like restlessness or confusion), shaking, seizures, difficulty urinating, and irregular heartbeats.

5. Is ARPTIZ TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

ARPTIZ TAB is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy, and pregnant women can typically take it without significant concern. However, during breastfeeding, while limited human data suggests it doesn't pose a significant risk to the baby, it passes into breast milk in small amounts and may reduce milk production. It's advised to consult a doctor before using it while breastfeeding, as it is contraindicated in nursing mothers due to the higher risk of antihistamines in newborns and premature infants.

6. Can ARPTIZ TAB be taken with other medications?

ARPTIZ TAB can interact with other medications. It should not be taken with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), as this can prolong and intensify its anticholinergic effects. Caution is also advised when taking it with other central nervous system (CNS) depressants like hypnotics, sedatives, tranquilizers, and anti-anxiety drugs, or alcohol, as this can increase sedative effects. Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking.

7. What precautions should be taken while using ARPTIZ TAB?

Due to potential drowsiness and dizziness, it is important to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can cause excessive drowsiness. ARPTIZ TAB is not recommended for individuals with conditions such as narrow-angle glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, stomach ulcers, urinary retention, severe liver or kidney disease, or in very young children (under 2 years old) or frail elderly patients.

8. What happens if a dose of ARPTIZ TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose of ARPTIZ TAB, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

9. How should ARPTIZ TAB be stored?

ARPTIZ TAB should be stored at room temperature, ideally between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F), protected from moisture, sunlight, and heat. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
