OLMY 10MG Tablet

OLMY 10MG Tablet, manufactured by Zydus Healthcare Limited (also referred to as Zydus Cadila), is a medication primarily used for the management of hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure. It belongs to a class of medicines called Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

Composition Each tablet contains Olmesartan Medoxomil 10mg as its active ingredient.

Uses OLMY 10MG Tablet is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). By lowering blood pressure, it helps prevent serious cardiovascular events such as future heart attacks and strokes. It may also be used in the management of heart failure and plays a role in protecting kidney function, particularly in patients with diabetes.

Dosage and Administration OLMY 10MG Tablet is typically taken once daily, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at approximately the same time each day to achieve maximum benefit. For adults, the usual starting dose is 20 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 40 mg once daily if needed, as directed by a physician. For children aged 6 to 16 years, the dosage varies by weight: 10 mg once daily for those weighing 20 kg to less than 35 kg, and 20 mg once daily for those weighing 35 kg or more. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects Common side effects include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Indigestion

Precautions

  • Pregnancy: OLMY 10MG Tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy, particularly after the third month, due to the risk of serious harm to the unborn baby.
  • Breastfeeding: This medicine is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women.
  • Alcohol: Consumption of alcohol should be avoided as it may cause excessive drowsiness and further lower blood pressure.
  • Kidney and Liver Disease: Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver problems. Dose adjustment or frequent monitoring of kidney/liver function and electrolyte levels may be necessary. It is not recommended for patients with severe kidney disease or jaundice.
  • Driving and Operating Machinery: OLMY 10MG Tablet may cause dizziness, sleepiness, or affect vision, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications, including herbal supplements, vitamins, and other blood pressure-lowering medications. Co-administration with Aliskiren is not recommended, especially in diabetic patients or those with moderate to severe kidney impairment. Concurrent use with potassium supplements or certain diuretics should be avoided due to the risk of hyperkalemia. NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen) may reduce its blood pressure-lowering effect. Lithium levels may increase when taken with this medicine.
  • General Warnings: Inform your doctor if you have severe vomiting, diarrhea, are on a low-salt diet, have problems with adrenal glands, high blood potassium levels, or heart conditions. Not recommended for children below 6 years of age.

Storage Store OLMY 10MG Tablet below 30°C, protected from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach and sight of children and pets.

Frequently asked questions

OLMY 10MG by ZYDUS HEALTHCARE LIMITED (Olmesartan Medoxomil 10mg) is a medication primarily used to treat high blood pressure.

What is OLMY 10MG used for?

OLMY 10MG is primarily used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children aged 6 years and older. By lowering blood pressure, it helps prevent serious complications such as heart attacks, strokes, and kidney damage. It can also be effective in preserving kidney function in patients with diabetes and may be used off-label for heart failure.

How does OLMY 10MG work?

OLMY 10MG contains Olmesartan Medoxomil, which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a natural substance in the body that causes blood vessels to narrow. By blocking these receptors, OLMY 10MG helps to relax and widen blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly and reducing the strain on the heart. This leads to a reduction in blood pressure.

What is the usual dosage for OLMY 10MG?

For most adults, the usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 20 mg or 40 mg once daily if blood pressure is not adequately controlled. For children aged 6 to less than 18 years, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily. For children weighing less than 35 kg, the daily dose should not exceed 20 mg. OLMY 10MG is typically taken once a day, with or without food.

What are the possible side effects of OLMY 10MG?

Common side effects of OLMY 10MG include dizziness, headache, nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, stomach pain, flu-like symptoms, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, and back pain. More serious, though less common, side effects can include severe or persistent diarrhea with weight loss, kidney damage, and high potassium levels.

Is OLMY 10MG safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No, OLMY 10MG is not recommended during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester, as it can cause serious harm to the unborn baby. It is also not recommended for use during breastfeeding, as it is unknown if the medicine passes into breast milk and could harm the baby. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Can OLMY 10MG be taken with other medications?

OLMY 10MG can interact with several medications. It is important to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Concomitant use with potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, and certain diuretics (like amiloride, spironolactone) is not recommended as it may lead to increased potassium levels in the blood. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen can reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect of OLMY 10MG and increase the risk of kidney problems. Taking it with lithium can increase lithium levels and the risk of toxicity. If taken with aliskiren, it can excessively decrease blood pressure and increase the risk of side effects.

What precautions should be taken while taking OLMY 10MG?

Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur, especially after the first dose, so exercise caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Avoid alcohol consumption as it can increase drowsiness and dizziness. Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, heart conditions, severe vomiting, diarrhea, are on a low-salt diet, or take high doses of diuretics, as these conditions may require dose adjustment or close monitoring. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels in your blood will be done by your doctor.

What happens if a dose of OLMY 10MG is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.

How should OLMY 10MG be stored?

OLMY 10MG tablets should be stored at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach and sight of children and pets.
