Frequently asked questions
What is SALBAIR TRANSCAPS used for?
SALBAIR TRANSCAPS is primarily used to manage and alleviate symptoms of respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It helps relieve symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. It is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm.
How does SALBAIR TRANSCAPS work?
SALBAIR TRANSCAPS contains Levosalbutamol, which is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the airways of the lungs, which helps to widen them and increase airflow. This action makes breathing easier.
What is the usual dosage for SALBAIR TRANSCAPS?
For adults with asthma or COPD, the usual recommended dose is 2 puffs (100 mcg) every 4-6 hours as needed. The maximum recommended daily dose is 12 puffs (600 mcg). For adults with exercise-induced bronchospasm, the recommended dose is 2 puffs (100 mcg) 15-30 minutes before exercise. This medication is for oral inhalation only and should be used as advised by your physician.
What are the possible side effects of SALBAIR TRANSCAPS?
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, restlessness, tremor (shakiness), headache, muscle tightness, dryness or soreness of the throat, dizziness, sleepiness, and nasal congestion (stuffy nose). More severe, though rare, side effects can include sudden worsening of asthma, severe allergic reactions (like swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, hives, rash, breathing problems), heart problems (such as changes in heart rate or blood pressure), and low potassium levels in the blood. If side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is SALBAIR TRANSCAPS safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
SALBAIR TRANSCAPS should be used with caution during pregnancy, and only if clearly needed, as safety and effectiveness for the baby and mother have not been fully established. Limited human studies exist, though animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the fetus. For breastfeeding mothers, it is not known if the components pass into breast milk in significant amounts. Therefore, it should be used with caution, and it is advised to consult your doctor before using this medicine while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can SALBAIR TRANSCAPS be taken with other medications?
You should inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements. Caution is advised when taking SALBAIR TRANSCAPS with other short-acting bronchodilators, beta-blockers (like propranolol), digoxin, diuretics (water pills such as furosemide), MAO inhibitors, and tricyclic antidepressants. Concurrent use with diuretics may decrease potassium levels in the body, which can lead to heart rhythm abnormalities.
What precautions should be taken while using SALBAIR TRANSCAPS?
Inform your doctor if you have pre-existing conditions such as heart problems (including coronary insufficiency, irregular heartbeat, or high blood pressure), kidney or liver diseases, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), stomach ulcer, seizures, or diabetes. This medication can potentially cause hypokalemia (low potassium levels) and may increase blood glucose levels, so diabetics should monitor their blood sugar closely. SALBAIR TRANSCAPS may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Smoking should be avoided as it irritates the lungs and can worsen breathing problems.
What happens if a dose of SALBAIR TRANSCAPS is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.
How should SALBAIR TRANSCAPS be stored?
SALBAIR TRANSCAPS should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, typically at temperatures between 10ºC and 25ºC or below 30ºC. Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children and pets.
