Description
NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS by AJANTA PHARMA LIMITED
NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS is an ophthalmic anti-inflammatory medication manufactured by Ajanta Pharma Ltd..
-
Composition: This eye drop contains Nepafenac 0.3% w/v as its active ingredient. Nepafenac belongs to the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause pain, redness, and inflammation in the eye.
-
Uses: NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS is primarily prescribed to prevent and relieve eye pain and inflammation (swelling, redness) following cataract surgery. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of macular edema (swelling in the back of the eye) after cataract surgery, particularly in diabetic patients.
-
Dosage and Administration: It is typically recommended to instill one drop into the affected eye three times daily, or as directed by a doctor. For proper application, wash hands thoroughly, tilt the head back, gently pull the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops without touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface. Close the eyes for 1-2 minutes after instillation. If using other eye drops, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications. Contact lenses should be removed before use and reinserted after at least 15 minutes. The usual course duration is up to two weeks after surgery, unless otherwise advised by a doctor.
-
Side Effects: Common side effects include blurred vision, vision changes, reduced vision, eye discomfort, itching, irritation, temporary stinging or burning sensation, eye redness, dry eye, eye discharge, foreign body sensation, and eyelid swelling. More serious, though less common, side effects can include corneal damage or keratitis, especially with prolonged or higher-than-recommended doses. Consult a doctor if side effects persist or worsen.
-
Precautions: Do not use if allergic to Nepafenac or any NSAIDs (like aspirin or ibuprofen). Inform the doctor if you have dry eye syndrome, arthritis, diabetes, or a bleeding/blood-clotting disorder. Use with caution in pregnant or breastfeeding women; consult a doctor. Avoid driving or operating machinery if vision is blurred after use. Do not use for more than 14 days after surgery unless advised by a doctor. Avoid touching the dropper tip to prevent contamination. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight while on treatment. Not recommended for children younger than 10 or 18 years old, depending on the source. Inform your doctor about all other medications, herbal preparations, and supplements being taken, especially blood thinners or other NSAIDs, to avoid interactions.
-
Storage: Store NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS below 30°C in a clean and dry place. Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children and pets. Discard the medicine 4 weeks after first opening the bottle. Do not use if the contents are of a different color or if particles are present.
Frequently asked questions
Here are the frequently asked questions about NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS:
What is NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS used for?
NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS are used to relieve eye pain, irritation, redness, and inflammation that occur after cataract eye surgery. They are also indicated to reduce the risk of macular oedema (swelling at the back of the eye) following cataract surgery in patients with diabetes.
How does NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS work?
This medicine contains Nepafenac, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the production of certain natural substances in the body called prostaglandins. Is NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
During pregnancy, NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS should generally only be used during the first six months if prescribed by a doctor, as it may be unsafe and could harm a fetus during the last three months. For breastfeeding women, it is unknown whether the drug passes into breast milk, so it should be used with caution and only if suggested by a doctor. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS be taken with other medications?
It is important to inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal preparations, and supplements you are taking. NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS are generally not expected to interact with orally or intravenously administered medications. However, concomitant use with blood thinners like warfarin or aspirin may increase the risk of bleeding. It is not recommended to use with Latanoprost or Travoprost, and caution is advised when used with other topical NSAIDs or steroids. If you are using other eye drops, instill them at least 5-10 minutes apart.
What precautions should be taken while using NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS?
Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. What happens if a dose of NEPAFLAM OD EYE DROPS is missed?
