Frequently asked questions

What is Atarax 10mg Tablet used for?

Atarax 10mg Tablet contains hydroxyzine, an antihistamine. It is used to relieve allergy symptoms (such as itching and hives), manage anxiety and tension, and sometimes to help with sleep or sedation before surgery.

How does Atarax work?

Atarax works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. It also has calming effects on the brain, which helps reduce anxiety and induce sleep.

What is the usual dosage for Atarax 10mg Tablet?

The dosage varies based on the condition being treated, age, and individual response. For adults, it is typically 25-100 mg per day, divided into several doses. For children, the dose is based on body weight and age. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

What are the possible side effects of Atarax?

Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, and blurred vision. Rarely, it may cause confusion, tremors, or allergic reactions. If you notice any severe side effects, seek medical attention promptly.

Is Atarax safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Atarax is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, as it may cause harm to the fetus. It is also not advised while breastfeeding because it can pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before use.

Can Atarax be taken with other medications?

Atarax can interact with other medications, especially those that cause drowsiness (such as sleeping pills, other antihistamines, or alcohol), and certain antidepressants or anticholinergic drugs. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking.

What precautions should be taken while using Atarax?

Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you know how the medication affects you. Use caution if you have a history of heart disease, glaucoma, enlarged prostate, or breathing problems.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Atarax, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to catch up.

How should Atarax 10mg Tablet be stored?

Store Atarax at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not use expired medication.
