Frequently asked questions

What is AMICLINE used for?

AMICLINE, manufactured by Franco-Indian Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, is primarily used to treat various parasitic infections, particularly intestinal amoebiasis (amoebic dysentery) and other worm infections. It is also administered to individuals who carry asymptomatic cysts of Entamoeba histolytica.

How does AMICLINE work?

AMICLINE acts as a luminal amoebicide, meaning it works within the bowel to kill the infection-causing amoeba. The active ingredient, diloxanide furoate, is hydrolyzed in the gut to release free diloxanide, which then inhibits the trophozoites of Entamoeba histolytica. It is also believed to work by blocking protein synthesis in the microorganisms.

What is the usual dosage of AMICLINE?

For adults, the recommended dosage is typically 500 mg taken three times a day for a duration of 10 days. Your doctor may advise repeating the course if necessary. It is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage and not to exceed it without consulting your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of AMICLINE?

Common side effects of AMICLINE can include flatulence, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or cramps, headache, itching, urticaria (hives), and loss of appetite. In some cases, abnormal liver function tests have been reported. If you experience any severe reactions such as a serious skin rash or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical attention.

Is AMICLINE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Caution is advised when using AMICLINE during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks, and only under a doctor's guidance. Amicline can potentially cause unwanted side effects in pregnant women. It is generally not recommended for use during breastfeeding, and a doctor should be consulted for alternative treatment options.

Can AMICLINE be taken with other medications?

While specific drug-drug interactions for AMICLINE (Diloxanide Furoate) are not extensively detailed, it is crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal products, and supplements you are currently taking. This helps to avoid any potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while on AMICLINE?

It is important to avoid consuming alcohol while taking AMICLINE. Patients with pre-existing conditions such as liver disease, kidney problems, epilepsy, or multiple sclerosis should use this medicine with caution and inform their doctor. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated during treatment, and ensure good hygiene to prevent the spread of infection. It is important to complete the full course of medication, even if symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is completely cleared. AMICLINE is not recommended for children below 2 years of age.

What happens if a dose of AMICLINE is missed?

If you miss a dose of AMICLINE, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

How should AMICLINE be stored?

AMICLINE tablets should be stored at room temperature, ideally between 20-25°C. Keep the medicine in its original container, away from moisture, direct light, and heat. Ensure it is kept out of reach of children and pets.
