Frequently asked questions

GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP is an antibiotic medication primarily used to treat bacterial eye infections. It contains Gatifloxacin as its active ingredient.

What is GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP used for?

GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, such as bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye), keratitis, and corneal ulcers. It effectively eliminates the bacteria causing the infection and helps alleviate symptoms like pain, redness, itching, and soreness.

How does GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP work?

This eye drop contains Gatifloxacin, which is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are crucial for the replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA. By blocking their action, Gatifloxacin prevents the bacteria from multiplying and spreading, ultimately leading to their death and clearing the infection.

What is the usual dosage of GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP?

The typical dosage for GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP is usually one drop in the affected eye(s) every two hours while awake on Day 1, up to 8 times. From Day 2 through Day 7, the dosage is generally one drop two to four times daily in the affected eye(s) while awake. It is crucial to follow your doctor's specific instructions regarding the dosage and duration of treatment.

What are the possible side effects of GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP?

Common side effects may include eye irritation, eye redness, eye pain, blurred vision, eye discharge, and an unpleasant taste (dysgeusia). Other reported side effects can include worsening of conjunctivitis, dry eye, eyelid edema, headache, and increased tear production. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

Is GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

For pregnant women, there is limited information, and animal studies have shown potential harmful effects. GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP may be unsafe during pregnancy, so it should be used only if clearly needed and under a doctor's guidance. For breastfeeding women, GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP is probably safe to use if prescribed by a doctor, as limited human data suggest it does not pose a significant risk to the baby. However, there is no information on its presence in human milk, and a doctor should be consulted.

Can GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP be taken with other medications?

GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP is for external ophthalmic use, and systemic interactions with other medicines are less likely. However, it is advisable to inform your doctor about all other medications, especially other eye drops, that you are currently using. If using multiple eye drops, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes between applications to prevent dilution. It's important to note that systemic Gatifloxacin (the active ingredient) can interact with certain medications, though this is less relevant for topical eye drops.

What precautions should be taken while using GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP?

Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface, including your eye, to prevent contamination. Do not wear contact lenses if you have symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis or while using this medicine, and reinsert them at least 15 minutes after application. Complete the entire prescribed course of treatment, even if symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is fully cured and to prevent antibiotic resistance. If you experience irritation, pain, redness, or changes in vision, consult your doctor.

What happens if a dose of GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP is missed?

If you miss a dose, instill it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

How should GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP be stored?

GATIQUIN HS EYE DROP should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct light and moisture, ideally below 30°C (or between 15°C and 25°C). Keep the lid closed when not in use and keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Discard any remaining solution after 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
