Frequently asked questions

Lobate Skin Cream 30 GM, manufactured by Abbott Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., is a potent topical corticosteroid used to manage various inflammatory skin conditions. Its active ingredient is Clobetasol propionate.

Here are some frequently asked questions about Lobate Skin Cream:

What is Lobate Skin Cream used for?

Lobate Skin Cream is primarily used for the relief of inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching associated with corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions. It is effective in treating autoimmune skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, and discoid lupus erythematosus.

How does Lobate Skin Cream work?

Lobate Skin Cream contains Clobetasol propionate, a strong corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune response in the affected area. This is achieved by inhibiting the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause swelling, redness, and itching.

What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?

Lobate Skin Cream is for external use only. The affected skin area should be cleaned and dried thoroughly before application. Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area two or three times daily, or as directed by your doctor. Gently rub the cream until it is fully absorbed. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the cream, unless your hands are the treated area. Do not use it for longer than the prescribed duration, usually for a short term such as two weeks. Avoid covering the treated area with airtight dressings like bandages unless specifically advised by a doctor.

What are the possible side effects of Lobate Skin Cream?

Common and temporary side effects may include dry or peeling skin, skin thinning, itching, redness, swelling, irritation, or a burning sensation at the application site. With prolonged use, more serious side effects can occur, such as skin atrophy (thinning), telangiectasia (widening of small veins), stretch marks, and changes in skin color. Systemic absorption can also lead to issues like adrenal suppression, Cushing's syndrome, high blood sugar, and vision problems (e.g., cataracts or glaucoma).

Is Lobate Skin Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: Lobate Skin Cream should be used with caution during pregnancy and only if recommended by your doctor, who will weigh the potential benefits against the risks. Animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Breastfeeding: There is limited information on how Lobate Skin Cream affects breastfeeding. It is advised to consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are a breastfeeding mother. If used on the chest, ensure it is washed off before feeding your baby to prevent ingestion.

Can Lobate Skin Cream be taken with other medications?

The risk of Lobate Skin Cream interacting with other systemic medicines is generally low because very little of it is absorbed into the bloodstream. However, you should avoid applying other topical creams or ointments, such as moisturizers, at the same time. Wait at least 30 minutes between applying Lobate Skin Cream and any other product. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including prescription, non-prescription, and herbal medicines.

What precautions should be taken while using Lobate Skin Cream?

Lobate Skin Cream is for external use only. Do not use it on the face, armpits, groin, or on broken, damaged, or severely infected skin unless specifically advised by your doctor. Avoid using it to treat acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, anogenital pruritus, or primary cutaneous viral infections like herpes simplex or chickenpox. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age without a doctor's advice due to the risk of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression. Use with caution if you have liver or kidney disease, diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, or a history of allergic reactions to steroids. Avoid excessive amounts or prolonged use to prevent increased side effects and systemic absorption. If your symptoms do not improve after two weeks, consult your doctor.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss an application of Lobate Skin Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should Lobate Skin Cream be stored?

Store Lobate Skin Cream in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. It should be kept out of sight and reach of children. The cream is typically stored at room temperature, ideally between 10ºC and 25ºC or below 30ºC.
