Description
VOLINI GEL 12 GM
Volini Gel is a clinically tested topical pain relief formulation by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., designed for rapid and effective relief from various musculoskeletal pains. Its advanced Nanogel formula ensures high absorption and a quick onset of action, often providing relief within two minutes.
Composition Volini Gel contains a blend of active ingredients, including:
- Diclofenac Diethylamine: 1.16% w/w (equivalent to Diclofenac Sodium 1% w/w), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that blocks pain and inflammation-causing chemical messengers.
- Methyl Salicylate: 10% w/w, which acts as a counter-irritant, providing a cooling and then warming sensation to desensitize nerve endings and promote blood flow.
- Menthol: 5% w/w, a cooling agent that provides a soothing sensation by dilating blood vessels and enhancing drug penetration.
- Linseed Oil: 3% w/w, which possesses anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting inflammatory mediators.
- Benzyl Alcohol: 1% w/w (as a preservative).
Uses Volini Gel is prescribed for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation associated with:
- Acute musculoskeletal pain, including backache, neck pain, shoulder pain, wrist pain, and calf pain.
- Trauma of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints, such as sprains, strains, and bruises.
- Localized forms of soft tissue rheumatism.
- Joint pain due to non-serious arthritic conditions like osteoarthritis, helping to reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness.
Dosage and Administration For adults and children 14 years and over, gently rub 2-4g of Volini Gel into the affected skin area 3-4 times a day. A minimum interval of 4 hours should be maintained between applications, and the maximum daily dose should not exceed 16g (4 applications in 24 hours). Do not use for more than 7 days unless directed by a doctor. After application, wash hands thoroughly unless the hands are the area being treated. Avoid applying to broken or irritated skin, open wounds, or under bandages/wraps. Do not shower or bathe for at least one hour after application.
Side Effects Common side effects are generally mild and may include:
- Skin irritation
- Rashes
- Itching
- Redness

- Burning sensation
- Contact dermatitis If any side effects persist or worsen, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

- Consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Individuals with sensitive skin should perform a patch test before first use.
- Patients with advanced kidney disease or a history of peptic ulceration should consult their doctor.
- Not recommended for children under 14 years due to insufficient safety data. Children aged 2-12 with viral flu, chickenpox, or viral fever should avoid it due to the methyl salicylate content, which may induce Reye's Syndrome.
- Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight on treated areas to reduce the risk of photosensitivity.
- Volini Gel is primarily for musculoskeletal pain and not recommended for headaches or migraines (unless medically supervised for headaches).
Storage Store Volini Gel in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, preferably at room temperature (between 10ºC and 25ºC or below 30ºC). Keep out of the reach of children. Do not freeze the product. Ensure the lid is tightly closed after each use.
Frequently asked questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about Volini Gel 12 GM:
What is Volini Gel used for?
Volini Gel is a topical pain relief medication used to alleviate various types of pain, including muscle pain, joint pain associated with arthritis, backache, neck pain, shoulder pain, sprains, strains, and sports injuries. It helps reduce inflammation and provides quick relief from discomfort and stiffness.
How does Volini Gel work?
Volini Gel contains a combination of active ingredients: Diclofenac diethylamine, Methyl Salicylate, Menthol, and Linseed Oil. Diclofenac and Methyl Salicylate are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that work by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers in the body responsible for causing pain and inflammation. Linseed oil also contributes to reducing swelling and inflammation. Menthol provides a soothing and cooling sensation by stimulating cold receptors in the skin, followed by a pain-relieving effect, and can enhance the penetration of other drugs.
What is the usual dosage and how should I apply it?
A small amount, typically a pea-sized quantity (approximately 2-4g), should be gently rubbed onto the affected area of the skin. It is usually applied 3-4 times a day, or as directed by a physician. You should wash your hands thoroughly after applying the gel, unless the treatment is for your hands.
What are the possible side effects of Volini Gel?
Common side effects can include localized skin reactions such as rash, irritation, redness, itching, and a burning sensation at the site of application. These effects are usually mild and temporary. If these side effects persist, worsen, or if you experience any other adverse reactions, it is recommended to consult a doctor.
Is Volini Gel safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
It is advisable to consult your doctor before using Volini Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Volini Gel is contraindicated during the third trimester of pregnancy. While generally considered safe during breastfeeding due to minimal systemic absorption, it is recommended to avoid applying it near the breast area to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant.
Can Volini Gel be used with other medications?
Volini Gel is not generally expected to interact with oral or injected medications due to its low systemic absorption. However, topical salicylates and menthol, components of Volini Gel, may potentiate the anticoagulant effects of warfarin (a blood thinner). Concomitant use with other systemic NSAIDs should be approached with caution as it may increase the risk of side effects. It is always best to inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using Volini Gel?
Volini Gel is for external use only. Avoid applying it to open wounds, cuts, broken, or irritated skin. It should not come into contact with your eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply the gel right before, during, or after activities that significantly increase skin temperature, such as bathing, swimming, or heavy exercise. Consult a doctor if your pain persists for more than 7 days, if your condition worsens, or if a skin rash or irritation develops. Volini Gel is not recommended for children under 14 years of age.
What happens if a dose is missed?
Volini Gel is typically applied on an as-needed basis for pain relief. If you miss an application, simply apply it as soon as you remember. There is generally no need to apply extra gel to compensate for a missed dose, as this will not provide better or quicker results and may increase the risk of skin irritation.
How should Volini Gel be stored?
Volini Gel should be stored at room temperature, ideally below 25°C or 30°C, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. It is important not to freeze the product. Always keep the cap tightly closed after use to prevent drying out and store it out of the sight and reach of children.
