Frequently asked questions
SGLTR Tablet, manufactured by Mankind Pharma Ltd., contains Remogliflozin Etabonate, which is a type of medicine known as an SGLT2 inhibitor. It is primarily used to manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
What is SGLTR Tablet used for?
SGLTR Tablet is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus, a condition where the body either doesn't produce enough insulin or can't effectively use the insulin it produces, leading to high blood sugar levels. It is also prescribed to manage non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and to lower the risk of heart failure in type 2 diabetic patients who also have heart disease. This medication can be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines, alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise.
How does SGLTR Tablet work?
SGLTR Tablet contains Remogliflozin Etabonate, which is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works by blocking the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, which is responsible for reabsorbing glucose back into the bloodstream. By inhibiting this action, SGLTR Tablet causes excess glucose to be eliminated from the body through urine, thereby lowering blood sugar levels and improving glycemic control.
What is the usual dosage for SGLTR Tablet?
The dosage of SGLTR Tablet is determined by your doctor based on your individual medical condition and response to treatment. It is typically taken orally, once daily, with or without food. It is important to swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water and not to chew, crush, or break it. Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose and timing, and do not exceed the recommended dosage.
What are the possible side effects of SGLTR Tablet?
Common side effects may include nausea, frequent urge to urinate, increased thirst, urinary tract infections, fungal infections in the genital area, low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), dizziness, constipation, and back pain. Serious but less common side effects can include diabetic ketoacidosis, severe urinary tract infections, and dehydration. If you experience any concerning or unmanageable side effects, consult your doctor.
Is SGLTR Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
SGLTR Tablet is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy and is contraindicated for breastfeeding women, as it is not known whether the medicine may pass through breast milk. If you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding, it is crucial to discuss this with your doctor to explore safer alternative treatments.
Can SGLTR Tablet be taken with other medications?
SGLTR Tablet can be used in combination with other antidiabetic medications, such as metformin. However, you should inform your doctor about all other medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and vitamins, as interactions can occur. For example, combining SGLTR Tablet with diuretics can increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure. When taken with insulin or other insulin-secreting drugs, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). SGLTR Tablet might also increase lithium levels in the blood and may interact with cardiac glycosides like digoxin.
What precautions should be taken while using SGLTR Tablet?
Before taking SGLTR Tablet, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, type 1 diabetes, dehydration, or low blood pressure. It is important to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Maintaining good hygiene can help prevent genital fungal and urinary tract infections, which are possible side effects. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is advised. Do not abruptly stop taking SGLTR Tablet, as this could lead to increased blood sugar levels and serious complications. Caution is also advised regarding alcohol consumption, as it may affect blood sugar levels and increase the risk of some side effects.
What happens if a dose of SGLTR Tablet is missed?
If you miss a dose of SGLTR Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
How should SGLTR Tablet be stored?
SGLTR Tablet should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. It should be kept out of sight and reach of children. The recommended storage temperature is typically between 15°C to 30°C.
