  • Composition:

    • Active Ingredient: Gatifloxacin 0.5% w/v
    • Preservative: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.01%
  • Uses: GATILOX HS EYE DROP is primarily prescribed for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, also known as pinkeye. It is effective against a broad spectrum of aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus mitis group, Streptococcus oralis, and Haemophilus influenzae. It works by inhibiting bacterial enzymes essential for DNA replication, thereby killing the bacteria.

    • Days 3 to 7: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) up to 4 times a day while awake. Wash hands thoroughly before and after use. Gently pull the lower eyelid to create a small pocket and instill the prescribed number of drops. Close the eyes gently for 1-2 minutes after instillation. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface to prevent contamination. If using other eye medications, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by the doctor, even if symptoms improve.

Frequently asked questions

GATILOX HS EYE DROP 3 ML: Frequently Asked Questions

GATILOX HS EYE DROP 3 ML is an antibiotic eye drop manufactured by SUN PHARMA LABORATORIES LTD. It contains Gatifloxacin as its active ingredient and is used to treat bacterial eye infections.

What is GATILOX HS EYE DROP used for?

GATILOX HS EYE DROP is primarily used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (commonly known as pinkeye) and other bacterial infections of the eye. It is effective against various bacteria, including aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative strains. In some cases, it may also be used for post-operative eye pain and inflammation due to bacterial presence.

How does GATILOX HS EYE DROP work?

This medicine contains Gatifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are crucial for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and survival. By blocking their action, Gatifloxacin prevents bacteria from multiplying and ultimately kills them. The eye drops also contain benzalkonium chloride as an antimicrobial preservative.

What is the usual dosage of GATILOX HS EYE DROP?

The typical dosage for bacterial conjunctivitis for adults and children 1 year of age and older is as follows:

  • Days 1 and 2: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) every 2 hours while awake, up to 8 times a day.
  • Days 3 through 7: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) 2 to 4 times a day while awake.

It is crucial to follow your doctor's specific instructions and complete the full course of treatment, even if symptoms improve, to prevent antibiotic resistance and ensure the infection is completely cleared. GATILOX HS EYE DROP is for external ophthalmic use only.

What are the possible side effects of GATILOX HS EYE DROP?

Common side effects may include eye irritation, redness, itching, discomfort, stinging, burning sensation, temporary blurred vision, watery eyes, eye discharge, eye pain, swollen eyelids, headache, and an unpleasant taste in the mouth.

More serious but less common side effects can include severe allergic reactions such as rash, hives, swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing. If you experience any severe allergic reactions, seek immediate medical attention.

Is GATILOX HS EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: Caution is advised during pregnancy. There is limited information on its effects in human pregnancy, and animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor.

Breastfeeding: It is unknown if GATILOX HS EYE DROP passes into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding, use this medicine only upon your doctor's recommendation, as some sources suggest potential serious side effects for lactating mothers.

Can GATILOX HS EYE DROP be taken with other medications?

Since GATILOX HS EYE DROP is applied topically to the eye, systemic interactions with oral medications are less likely. However, it's important to inform your doctor about all other medications, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements you are using.

If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applying GATILOX HS EYE DROP and other eye medications to ensure proper absorption and prevent dilution. Concomitant use with steroid medications (e.g., dexamethasone) may increase the risk of infection, and with NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen) may delay the eye's healing process.

What precautions should be taken while using GATILOX HS EYE DROP?

  • Contact Lenses: Do not wear contact lenses if you have an eye infection or while you are using GATILOX HS EYE DROP. You can typically reinsert contact lenses 15 minutes after instilling the drops, if advised by your doctor.
  • Driving and Machinery: This medicine may cause temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision is clear.
  • Allergies: Do not use if you are allergic to gatifloxacin or any other fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
  • Administration: Wash your hands thoroughly before and after use. Do not touch the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
  • Children: GATILOX HS EYE DROP is generally not recommended for children less than one year of age unless specifically directed by a doctor.
  • Pre-existing Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, severe dry eye syndrome, corneal defects, or a history of convulsive disorders, low blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythm, diabetes, or myasthenia gravis.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of GATILOX HS EYE DROP, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should GATILOX HS EYE DROP be stored?

Store GATILOX HS EYE DROP at room temperature, ideally between 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, and below 25 degrees Celsius. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Ensure it is kept out of sight and reach of children.
