Frequently asked questions

What is Eticort 6 MG Tablet used for?

Eticort 6 MG Tablet is a corticosteroid medication primarily used for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant properties. It is prescribed for the treatment of various conditions including severe allergic reactions, allergic conditions, asthma, cancer, rheumatic disorders (like rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis), skin disorders (such as eczema, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis), eye disorders, autoimmune diseases (e.g., lupus, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune hepatitis, sarcoidosis), inflammatory bowel disease, uveitis, ulcerative colitis, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It also helps transplant patients by suppressing the immune system to prevent organ rejection.

How does Eticort 6 MG Tablet work?

Eticort 6 MG Tablet contains Deflazacort, which is a corticosteroid pro-drug. It works by increasing the level of glucocorticoids in the body. It functions by inhibiting the release of certain chemical substances that are responsible for causing inflammation and swelling. Additionally, it modifies the immune system's response to suppress autoimmune reactions and reduce the body's self-damage.

What is the usual dosage of Eticort 6 MG Tablet?

The dosage of Eticort 6 MG Tablet is prescribed by a doctor and depends on the condition being treated and individual patient needs. It should be taken exactly as advised by your healthcare provider. For adults, a daily intake of half to three tablets may be prescribed. Children are typically prescribed lower doses, which may sometimes be advised on alternate days. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not crushed or chewed. It is generally recommended to take this medication with food to minimize stomach upset.

What are the possible side effects of Eticort 6 MG Tablet?

Common side effects of Eticort 6 MG Tablet can include increased appetite, weight gain, frequent urge to urinate, facial swelling, abnormal hair growth, cough, headache, nausea, chest pain, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, skin rash, tremors, nervousness, diarrhea, fast heartbeats, Cushing syndrome, obesity, nasopharyngitis, and upper respiratory tract infections. Most side effects may not require immediate medical attention and tend to fade as your body adjusts. However, if any of these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor.

Is Eticort 6 MG Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Eticort 6 MG Tablet is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless specifically prescribed by a doctor. Limited human studies are available, and animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing fetus. It is known to pass into breast milk. Therefore, it is crucial to consult your doctor to weigh the benefits and potential risks if you are pregnant, think you are pregnant, planning a baby, or breastfeeding.

Can Eticort 6 MG Tablet be taken with other medications?

Eticort 6 MG Tablet can interact with certain other medications. It is important to inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including prescribed, non-prescribed, herbal medicines, and dietary supplements. For example, its desired effect may be reduced if taken with Carbamazepine, and its concentration may increase if taken with Ketoconazole. It can also alter blood glucose levels, potentially decreasing the effects of anti-diabetic medicines, requiring frequent monitoring and possible dose adjustments. Other medicines to be used with caution include anti-tuberculosis medicines (like rifampicin), painkillers, immunosuppressants (like ciclosporin), blood thinners (like warfarin), and anti-seizure medicines (like phenobarbitone, phenytoin, and pyrimidine).

What precautions should be taken?

Several precautions should be taken when using Eticort 6 MG Tablet. Inform your doctor about your medical history, including allergies, hypertension, heart problems, liver or kidney problems, diabetes, glaucoma, tuberculosis, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, stomach disorders (like ulcers or gastrointestinal diseases), or mental disorders. This medicine can lower your body's ability to fight infections; therefore, report any signs of infection like fever or sore throat to your doctor. Avoid live vaccines while on this medication. Do not stop taking Eticort 6 MG Tablet abruptly without consulting your doctor, as sudden discontinuation can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as loss of appetite, vomiting, upset stomach, drowsiness, confusion, headache, fever, and joint and muscle pain. Avoid consuming alcohol and grapefruit juice as they may increase the risk of side effects.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of Eticort 6 MG Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

How should Eticort 6 MG Tablet be stored?

Eticort 6 MG Tablet should be kept in its original packaging in a cool, dry place, typically below 30°C. It should be protected from light and moisture. Ensure that this medication remains out of reach of children and pets.
