Name: Gemcal Kit
Composition: Gemcal Kit is a combination medication containing:
- Calcitriol (0.25 mcg)
- Calcium Carbonate (500 mg)
- Elemental Zinc (7.5 mg)
- Risedronate (35 mg)
Uses: This kit is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, which causes bones to become fragile and brittle, reducing the risk of fractures. It is also used for calcium deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, hypoparathyroidism, rickets, osteomalacia, and postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Dosage and Administration: Take Gemcal Kit orally as advised by your physician, usually once daily. It is generally recommended to take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking it to prevent esophageal irritation.
Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, back pain, joint pain, stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, constipation, and diarrhea. More serious, though less common, side effects can include increased calcium levels in the blood, elevated blood creatinine, urinary tract infection, decreased appetite, rash, weakness, and somnolence.
Precautions:
- Contraindications: Do not use if you have high levels of calcium in the blood, extra calcium deposits in the body, abnormalities of the esophagus, or an inability to stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease or known allergy to any of its ingredients, and is not recommended for children.
- Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications, including antacids, antibiotics, iron supplements, diuretics, steroids, and other vitamin D supplements, as they may interact with Gemcal Kit. Avoid consuming high-calcium foods or supplements close to taking the medication.
- Specific Populations: Use with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women; consult your doctor. Alcohol consumption should be limited or avoided as it can interfere with mineral absorption and cause bone loss.
Storage: Store Gemcal Kit at room temperature (20-25°C), protected from moisture and direct light. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

What is GEMCAL KIT used for?
GEMCAL KIT is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, especially in postmenopausal women. It is also prescribed for calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, to improve bone density, reduce the risk of fractures, and support overall bone health.
How does GEMCAL KIT work?
GEMCAL KIT works through its combination of active ingredients:
- Calcitriol: A form of Vitamin D that helps the body effectively absorb calcium and phosphate from the intestines and kidneys, and supports muscles to prevent falls.
- Calcium Carbonate: A mineral that directly increases calcium stores in the body, essential for building and maintaining strong bones and teeth.
- Elemental Zinc: Contributes to bone health by supporting bone cell growth and development, and may increase calcium absorption.
- Risedronate: A bisphosphonate that works by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts (cells that break down bone), thereby slowing bone loss, strengthening bones, and minimizing the risk of fractures.
What is the usual dosage for GEMCAL KIT?
The dosage of GEMCAL KIT should be taken orally as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. It is generally recommended to take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, and to remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking it to prevent irritation of the esophagus.
