Description

URIMAX T CAP by CIPLA LTD

Name: Urimax T Capsule (Brand Name)

Composition: Each hard gelatin capsule contains Tamsulosin Hydrochloride IP 0.4 mg (as an extended-release tablet) and Tadalafil IP 5 mg (as a film-coated tablet).

Uses: Urimax T Capsule is prescribed for adult men to manage symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate, and erectile dysfunction (ED).

  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): It helps alleviate urinary symptoms such as difficulty starting urination, a weak or interrupted urine stream, frequent or urgent need to urinate (especially at night), and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder neck, improving urine flow.
  • Erectile Dysfunction (ED): Tadalafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis, aiding in achieving and maintaining an erection when sexually stimulated.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dosage is one capsule taken orally once daily, ideally around the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food, though consistently taking it after the same meal may help maintain steady drug levels and reduce certain side effects. The capsule should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, or divided.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Headache, dizziness, nausea, indigestion, facial flushing, sweating, runny nose, abdominal discomfort, insomnia, decreased libido, abnormal ejaculation, and orthostatic hypotension (a drop in blood pressure upon standing).
  • Serious (though less common): Severe hypotension (especially when taken with nitrates), and priapism (a prolonged erection lasting more than 4 hours). Medical attention should be sought if an erection persists for an extended period.

Precautions:

  • Urimax T Capsule is intended for men only and is not recommended for women or children.
  • It is contraindicated in individuals with a known allergy to tamsulosin or tadalafil, severe liver problems, severe heart conditions (such as a recent heart attack within 90 days or stroke within 6 months, unstable angina, or heart failure where sexual activity is inadvisable), low blood pressure, or if taking any form of organic nitrates or riociguat.
  • Use with caution in patients with kidney or mild to moderate liver impairment.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or sleepiness; therefore, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery until you understand how it affects you.
  • Alcohol consumption should be limited or avoided, as it can increase the risk of low blood pressure and dizziness.
  • Inform your doctor if you are scheduled for eye surgery (e.g., cataracts or glaucoma), as it may affect the procedure.
  • Concomitant use with other alpha-blockers or certain PDE5 inhibitors may increase the risk of hypotensive effects.

Storage: Store Urimax T Capsule in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep it out of the reach and sight of children. It should be stored below 25°C or between 20°C and 25°C.

Frequently asked questions

URIMAX T CAP by CIPLA LTD - Frequently Asked Questions

What is Urimax T Capsule used for?

Urimax T Capsule is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate, and erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It is indicated for patients who are already taking tamsulosin and tadalafil concomitantly.

How does Urimax T Capsule work?

Urimax T Capsule contains two active ingredients: Tamsulosin and Tadalafil. Tamsulosin works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and urinary bladder, which helps urine flow more easily. Tadalafil inhibits an enzyme called phosphodiesterase, relaxing the blood vessels of the penis, which increases blood supply and aids in achieving an erection when sexually stimulated. Tadalafil also improves blood flow to the prostate and bladder, further relaxing muscles in these areas to facilitate urine flow.

What is the usual dosage of Urimax T Capsule?

The recommended dosage is one capsule once daily, taken orally around the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food, but some sources suggest taking it after a meal. The capsule should be swallowed whole and not divided or crushed.

What are the possible side effects of Urimax T Capsule?

Common side effects may include flushing, headache, blurred vision, muscle pain, stomach upset, rash, dizziness, lightheadedness, nasal congestion, indigestion, and problems with ejaculation. If you experience bothersome side effects or if they do not resolve, consult your doctor.

Is Urimax T Capsule safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No, Urimax T Capsule is not indicated for use in women and should not be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Can Urimax T Capsule be taken with other medications?

Urimax T Capsule can interact with several medications. It should not be taken with nitrates, which are often prescribed for chest pain, as this can lead to severe low blood pressure. Caution is advised when taking it with other blood pressure medicines (e.g., Verapamil, Diltiazem), antifungals (e.g., Ketoconazole), certain antibiotics (e.g., Erythromycin), cimetidine (for acidity), and HIV medications (e.g., Ritonavir, Indinavir). Inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while using Urimax T Capsule?

Do not take Urimax T Capsule if you are allergic to its ingredients, have severe liver or heart problems, or have recently had a stroke or heart attack within the last 6 months. Patients with kidney or liver problems, a history of low blood pressure, or those scheduled for eye surgery (cataract or glaucoma) should inform their doctor. Avoid alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of dizziness and low blood pressure. If the medicine causes dizziness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. Seek immediate medical attention if an erection lasts more than 4 hours.

What happens if a dose of Urimax T Capsule is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

How should Urimax T Capsule be stored?

Urimax T Capsule should be stored below 25°C or 30°C, in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, and protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach and sight of children.
