Frequently asked questions
CAPSITOP O GEL by STEDMAN PHARMACEUTICALS PVT. LTD
What is CAPSITOP O GEL used for?
CAPSITOP O GEL is primarily used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal and joint disorders. This includes conditions like sprains, strains, arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis), bursitis, tendinitis, backache, neck and shoulder pain, muscle stiffness, and knee pain. It can also help reduce swelling and stiffness in affected areas.
How does CAPSITOP O GEL work?
CAPSITOP O GEL contains a combination of active ingredients: Capsicum oleoresin, Diclofenac, Menthol, and Methyl Salicylate. Diclofenac and Methyl salicylate work by blocking the effect of chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation in the body. Capsicum oleoresin blocks pain messengers in the nerves. Menthol provides a cooling sensation by dilating blood vessels, which is then followed by an analgesic (pain-relieving) effect and helps enhance drug penetration. This combination helps to provide relief from pain and reduce inflammation.
What is the usual dosage and how should I apply CAPSITOP O GEL?
CAPSITOP O GEL is for external application only. You should clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before application. Apply a thin layer of the gel to the painful area and gently massage it until it is fully absorbed into the skin. It is typically recommended to apply the gel three to four times daily, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly after application to prevent accidental contact with eyes or mucous membranes.
What are the possible side effects of CAPSITOP O GEL?
Common side effects are generally application site reactions such as skin irritation, redness, burning sensation, stinging, or itching. These usually subside after a few days of use. In rare cases, more severe allergic reactions such as wheezing, chest tightness, fever, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat can occur. If you experience severe pain, very bad skin irritation, or any signs of a serious allergic reaction, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.
Is CAPSITOP O GEL safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
The safety of CAPSITOP O GEL during pregnancy has not been definitively established, and it is generally not recommended as it contains diclofenac, which can potentially cause problems inside the womb, especially in later pregnancy. It is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is positive evidence of human fetal risk.
For breastfeeding, limited information is available. While diclofenac, when used topically, may only lead to tiny amounts in breast milk, it is advised to consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are breastfeeding. If used, take care that the baby does not touch areas where the gel has been applied, and wash your hands after use and before handling the baby.
Can CAPSITOP O GEL be taken with other medications?
CAPSITOP O GEL is meant for topical application, so it is less likely to significantly interact with oral medications. However, inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking. Avoid simultaneous application of other topical products on the same area. It is advised to avoid taking oral painkillers like aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen simultaneously, as they may increase the chance of side effects. If you are on blood thinners, consult your doctor before using this gel.
What precautions should be taken while using CAPSITOP O GEL?
CAPSITOP O GEL is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, or open wounds. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. It is generally advised not to cover the treated area with bandages or use a heating pad after application. Inform your doctor if you have severe heart problems, stomach ulcers, bleeding problems, asthma, high blood pressure, or inflammation of the intestines. The gel is not recommended for children under 14 years of age unless specifically directed by a doctor. Limit exposure to sunlight, as it may make your skin sensitive.
How should CAPSITOP O GEL be stored?
Store CAPSITOP O GEL in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep it out of sight and reach of children. The recommended storage temperature is typically between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
