Description
APDROPS PD EYE DROPS 10 ML
APDROPS PD EYE DROPS, manufactured by Ajanta Pharma Limited, is a combination eye medication used to treat various eye conditions involving both infection and inflammation.
Composition
APDROPS PD EYE DROPS contains two active ingredients:
- Moxifloxacin (0.5% w/v): A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by preventing bacteria from dividing and repairing, thereby killing the bacteria and stopping the infection.
- Prednisolone (1% w/v): A corticosteroid (steroid drug) that reduces inflammation by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause redness, swelling, and itching in the eyes.
Uses
APDROPS PD EYE DROPS is prescribed for:
- Managing and treating bacterial eye infections and associated inflammation, such as conjunctivitis (pink eye).
- Reducing eye pain, redness, itching, or burning/stinging sensations following eye surgeries, including cataract or corneal refractive surgery.
- Addressing steroid-responsive conditions of the eye where there is also a risk of bacterial infection.
- Alleviating symptoms caused by allergic reactions in the eye, such as itching, redness, and watery eyes, by reducing inflammation.
Dosage and Administration
This medicine is for ophthalmic (eye) use only and requires a prescription.
- Use as advised by your physician, following the instructions on the label carefully.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the drops.
- To apply, tilt your head slightly backward, gently pull down your lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops. Close your eyes for about 2 minutes.
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye, eyelids, or any other surface to prevent contamination.
- If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
- If using other eye medications, allow at least a 5-minute gap between applications.
- Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if your symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is fully cured and to prevent recurrence or antibiotic resistance.
- For bacterial conjunctivitis, a typical dosage might be 1-2 drops, 2-4 times daily for at least a week, or as directed by your doctor.

Frequently asked questions
What is APDROPS PD EYE DROPS used for?
APDROPS PD EYE DROPS are primarily used to treat bacterial eye infections and associated inflammation, including conditions like bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye). They are also prescribed to reduce post-operative inflammation and pain after eye surgeries, such as cataract or corneal refractive procedures.
How does APDROPS PD EYE DROPS work?
APDROPS PD EYE DROPS contain a combination of two active ingredients: Moxifloxacin and Prednisolone. Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth and multiplication of infection-causing bacteria. Prednisolone is a corticosteroid (a type of steroid) that reduces inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching in the eye. Together, they provide a dual action to treat both the infection and the associated inflammatory symptoms.
What is the usual dosage for APDROPS PD EYE DROPS?
The exact dosage should be followed as prescribed by your doctor. Generally, it is instilled into the affected eye(s) as directed. For conditions like conjunctivitis, a common dosage mentioned is 1 to 2 drops, four times daily for a course duration of 7 days, but this can vary. It's crucial to use the exact number of drops recommended and not to exceed the prescribed dose.
What are the possible side effects of APDROPS PD EYE DROPS?
Common side effects include mild eye irritation or burning sensation, eye discomfort, blurred vision, increased pressure within the eyes (intraocular pressure), headache, and changes in taste. Less common or more severe side effects can include dry eyes, eye redness, inflammation of the eye surface, drooping eyelids, or severe allergic reactions. Prolonged use of steroid components can potentially lead to increased intraocular pressure and cataract formation. Consult your doctor if any side effects worsen or persist.
Is APDROPS PD EYE DROPS safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
APDROPS PD EYE DROPS are generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically considered necessary by a physician. It should only be used under medical supervision by pregnant or lactating women, as information regarding its safety in these situations is not fully established.
Can APDROPS PD EYE DROPS be taken with other medications?
While eye drops generally have less systemic absorption compared to oral medications, it is important to inform your doctor about all other prescription and non-prescription medicines you are taking. Specifically, you should mention medications for HIV (such as ritonavir, cobicistat) and glaucoma (such as timolol, acetazolamide). If you are using other eye drops, maintain a gap of at least 15 minutes between applications to prevent interactions. Alcohol is not known to interact significantly with these eye drops.
What precautions should be taken when using APDROPS PD EYE DROPS?
To prevent contamination, avoid touching the tip of the dropper to your eye, eyelids, or any other surface. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you experience blurred vision after using the drops until your vision is clear. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing eye conditions like glaucoma, herpes simplex infection, or unexplained redness or blurring of vision. It is crucial to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if your symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is fully cleared and to prevent its recurrence or the development of antibiotic resistance. This medicine is not effective against viral or fungal eye infections. Prolonged use of corticosteroids should be avoided.
What happens if a dose of APDROPS PD EYE DROPS is missed?
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for the missed one.
How should APDROPS PD EYE DROPS be stored?
Store APDROPS PD EYE DROPS at a temperature below 25°C in a cool and dry place. Keep the medicine in its original packaging and ensure it is out of the reach of children and pets. Protect it from light and do not freeze the drops.
