Frequently asked questions

NOBEL DS GEL by MANKIND PHARMA LTD is a topical medication used to relieve various types of pain and inflammation. It contains a combination of active ingredients that work together to provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Here are some frequently asked questions about NOBEL DS GEL:

1. What is NOBEL DS GEL used for?

NOBEL DS GEL is used for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation. This includes conditions such as joint pain from arthritis (like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis), muscle pain, sprains, strains, sports injuries, and backaches. It targets discomfort in both surface and deeper tissues.

2. How does NOBEL DS GEL work?

NOBEL DS GEL works due to its combination of active ingredients. Diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), blocks the release of chemical messengers responsible for pain and inflammation (redness and swelling). Methyl Salicylate and Menthol are topical analgesics that work by first cooling the skin and then warming it up. This action helps to improve blood circulation in the affected area and distracts from the pain.

3. What are the active ingredients in NOBEL DS GEL?

The key active ingredients in NOBEL DS GEL are Diclofenac (as Diclofenac Diethylamine), Methyl Salicylate, and Menthol. Some formulations may also include Linseed Oil.

4. How should I apply NOBEL DS GEL?

NOBEL DS GEL is for external use only. Apply a thin layer of the gel to the affected area and rub gently until it is absorbed. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor, typically 2-3 or 3-4 times daily. Remember to wash your hands after application, unless the hands are the area being treated.

5. What are the possible side effects of NOBEL DS GEL?

Common side effects include a burning or stinging sensation, irritation, itching, and redness at the site of application. These are usually mild and tend to resolve as your body adjusts to the medication. If these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Rarely, severe allergic reactions can occur.

6. What precautions should I take when using NOBEL DS GEL?

Avoid contact of the gel with your eyes, mouth, nose, or any wounded or damaged skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with plenty of cold water. Do not use more than the recommended dose. Inform your doctor if you have allergies to diclofenac, aspirin, menthol, or other NSAIDs, or if you have conditions like asthma, stomach ulcers, severe liver or kidney problems, or severe heart failure.

7. Is NOBEL DS GEL safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

NOBEL DS GEL is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester, as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. Your doctor may prescribe it only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Regarding breastfeeding, information is limited for Nobel DS Gel specifically. While tiny amounts of diclofenac may enter breast milk and have been used for years without reported issues, it's advised to consult your doctor. If used, ensure the baby does not touch applied areas, and wash hands before handling the baby.

8. Can NOBEL DS GEL be used with other medications?

While topical medicines typically have minimal systemic absorption, it is always a good idea to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements. You should avoid taking other NSAIDs for pain relief concurrently with NOBEL DS GEL unless specifically advised by your doctor.

9. What should I do if I miss a dose of NOBEL DS GEL?

Since NOBEL DS GEL is a topical medication used for pain relief, if you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, do not apply extra gel to make up for a missed dose, and do not use it more often than prescribed.

10. How should NOBEL DS GEL be stored?

Store NOBEL DS GEL in a cool and dry place, preferably below 30°C. Protect it from light and moisture, and do not freeze it. Keep it out of sight and reach of children.
