VOVERAN EMULGEL 50 GM GEL

Voveran Emulgel 50 GM is a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., designed for localized pain relief and inflammation reduction.

  • Composition The active ingredient is Diclofenac Diethylamine, typically at 1.16% w/w, which corresponds to 1% Diclofenac Sodium. This works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers, known as prostaglandins, that cause pain and inflammation in the body.

  • Uses Voveran Emulgel is prescribed for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal conditions. This includes injuries such as sprains, strains, bruises, and tendonitis (e.g., tennis elbow). It is also effective for different forms of arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as general muscle and joint pain, low back pain, neck pain, and post-traumatic pain.

  • Dosage and Administration For external use only, Voveran Emulgel should be applied gently to the affected skin area 2 to 4 times a day, or as directed by a healthcare professional, and massaged until absorbed. Do not apply to broken, diseased, infected, or irritated skin, or open wounds. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes; rinse thoroughly with water if accidental contact occurs. Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings or bandages, as this may increase the risk of side effects.

  • Side Effects Common side effects may include skin irritation, rash, itching, redness, or a burning sensation at the application site. While topical application generally reduces systemic side effects compared to oral NSAIDs, severe allergic reactions (e.g., blistering rash) can occur. Systemic side effects, such as gastrointestinal issues or increased risk of heart attack/stroke, are less likely but cannot be entirely excluded with prolonged use over large skin areas.

  • Precautions Voveran Emulgel is not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy and should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless specifically advised by a doctor. Individuals with known hypersensitivity to diclofenac, aspirin, or other NSAIDs should not use this product. Caution is advised for patients with existing heart conditions, kidney or liver problems, asthma, stomach ulcers, or bleeding disorders. It may also increase the risk of sunburn. Consult a doctor before use if you are taking other medications, especially blood thinners, other NSAIDs, or certain heart/blood pressure medications, due to potential interactions. Not for use in children under 14 years without medical advice.

  • Storage Store Voveran Emulgel in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture, and do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Frequently asked questions

Voveran Emulgel 50 gm is a topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) containing diclofenac diethylamine, used for pain and inflammation relief in various musculoskeletal conditions.

What is Voveran Emulgel used for?

Voveran Emulgel is primarily used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation associated with musculoskeletal disorders. This includes conditions such as sprains, strains, bruises (contusions), post-traumatic pain, low back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, and general joint pain. It is also effective for certain types of arthritis, tendonitis (like tennis elbow), and osteoarthritis.

How does Voveran Emulgel work?

Voveran Emulgel contains diclofenac diethylamine, an NSAID. It works by inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for producing prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation in the body. By blocking their production, Voveran Emulgel reduces pain, redness, and swelling at the site of application.

What is the usual dosage of Voveran Emulgel?

For adults and children over 12 years, apply a thin layer of Voveran Emulgel to the affected area 3 to 4 times daily and gently rub it into the skin until absorbed. A quantity equivalent to a cherry- to walnut-sized amount (2 to 4 grams) is typically sufficient to treat an area of about 400 to 800 square centimeters. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Consult your doctor if your pain persists for more than 7 days or if symptoms worsen.

What are the possible side effects of Voveran Emulgel?

Common side effects usually involve the application site and may include itching, irritation, redness, rash, burning sensation, eczema, erythema, and dermatitis (including contact dermatitis). Less commonly, if applied to large areas or for prolonged periods, systemic side effects such as stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, headache, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or gastrointestinal bleeding/ulcers can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience a rash with blistering, which could indicate a severe allergic reaction.

Is Voveran Emulgel safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: Voveran Emulgel is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester, as it may cause harm to the unborn child or complicate delivery. Its use can affect blood flow in the baby or reduce amniotic fluid. During the first six months of pregnancy, it is also advised to avoid its use unless the potential benefits clearly outweigh the risks, and only under a doctor's guidance.

Breastfeeding: It is generally not recommended during breastfeeding, and its use should be avoided. Only tiny amounts of diclofenac pass into breast milk, but caution is advised. Consult your doctor, who will determine if it can be used. If used, avoid applying the gel to your breasts and ensure your baby does not come into contact with treated skin areas.

Can Voveran Emulgel be taken with other medications?

Voveran Emulgel may interact with certain other medications. It is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines, herbal supplements, and vitamins you are currently taking. This includes other NSAIDs, blood thinners, corticosteroids, and certain antidepressants, as interactions could occur. Avoid using it simultaneously with oral diclofenac or similar NSAID tablets.

What precautions should be taken when using Voveran Emulgel?

Voveran Emulgel is for external use only. Do not apply it to open wounds, cuts, scrapes, damaged, broken, diseased, infected, inflamed, or irritated skin. Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucous membranes; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings or bandages unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as this may increase systemic absorption and side effects. Discontinue use if a skin rash develops. Inform your doctor about any history of heart problems, stroke, peptic ulcers, kidney or liver issues, asthma, or allergic reactions to NSAIDs. Avoid excessive sun exposure while using the gel as it may increase the risk of sunburn. It is not recommended for children under 12 or 14 years of age. Always wash your hands thoroughly after application, unless your hands are the area being treated.

What happens if a dose of Voveran Emulgel is missed?

If you miss a dose of Voveran Emulgel, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double amount to make up for a missed dose.

How should Voveran Emulgel be stored?

Store Voveran Emulgel in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use and ensure it is kept out of reach and sight of children and pets. The recommended storage temperature is below 30°C (86°F).
