A single application is often sufficient, but a second application can be done after 7 days if needed or if live mites are still present.
- For Head Lice: Apply to the scalp and hair, leave on for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse and comb out lice and eggs.
- Ensure skin is clean, dry, and cool before application. Avoid applying immediately after a hot bath. Wash hands before and after application.

Frequently asked questions
PERMITE CREAM 60GM (containing Permethrin 5%) is a topical medication used to treat parasitic skin infestations. Here are some frequently asked questions about this medicine:
What is Permite Cream used for?
Permite Cream is primarily used to treat scabies, a contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites called Sarcoptes scabiei. It is also effective in treating infestations of head lice and crab lice (pediculosis).
How does Permite Cream work?
Permite Cream contains Permethrin, which is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. It works by disrupting the nervous system of mites and lice, leading to their paralysis and eventual death. It also helps to kill their eggs, preventing re-infestation.
What is the usual dosage and application?
For scabies, Permite Cream is typically applied as a thin layer to the entire body, from the neck down to the soles of the feet. For infants, the cream may also need to be applied to the scalp, hairline, and temples. It should be left on the skin for 8 to 14 hours, then thoroughly washed off with soap and water. Usually, a single application is sufficient, but a second application may be needed after 7 to 14 days if live mites are still present or symptoms persist.
What are the possible side effects of Permite Cream?
Common side effects include mild burning, stinging, tingling, itching, redness, or a rash at the application site. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. If these symptoms are severe, worsen, or persist, consult your doctor.
Is Permite Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
There is conflicting information regarding its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some sources indicate it is generally considered safe during pregnancy when used under medical supervision, with minimal absorption through the skin. For breastfeeding mothers, some guidelines suggest it is safe due to low systemic absorption and minimal excretion in breast milk, but advise avoiding application to the breast area to prevent direct contact with the infant. However, other sources recommend consulting a doctor as it may not be recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Always consult your doctor before using Permite Cream if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Can Permite Cream be taken with other medications?
As Permite Cream is applied topically, it is less likely to interact significantly with other oral medications. However, it is always advised to inform your doctor about all the medicines, including herbal products and supplements, you are currently using to avoid any potential interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using Permite Cream?
Permite Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucous membranes, as it may cause irritation. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply it to broken or inflamed skin. Caregivers applying the cream should wear gloves. Inform your doctor if you have other skin conditions like eczema or asthma, or if you are allergic to permethrin, chrysanthemums, or other pyrethroids. It is not recommended for infants under 2 months of age unless specifically advised by a doctor.
What happens if a dose of Permite Cream is missed?
Since Permite Cream is typically a single-application treatment or used infrequently, the concept of a "missed dose" doesn't usually apply in the same way as daily medications. If a scheduled re-application is missed, or if you are unsure, consult your doctor for guidance.
How should Permite Cream be stored?
Permite Cream should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, at a temperature below 25-30°C. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
