SYNCA LS DROP

  • Name: SYNCA LS Eye Drops (Brand Name). Manufactured by SUN PHARMA-MILMET DIV.

  • Composition: Each mL of SYNCA LS Eye Drops contains:

    • Brimonidine: 0.1% w/v
    • Brinzolamide: 1% w/v
  • Uses: SYNCA LS Eye Drops are primarily prescribed to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. This action helps prevent optic nerve damage and potential vision loss. It is also used when single-agent therapies are insufficient to achieve the target pressure.

  • Dosage and Administration:

    • Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) as directed by an ophthalmologist, typically once, twice, or thrice daily.
    • Wash hands thoroughly before use.
    • Tilt the head back slightly and gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket.
    • Without touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface, release one drop into the pocket.
    • Close the eye gently and press the inner corner of the eye with a fingertip for 1-2 minutes to minimize systemic absorption.
    • If other eye medications are required, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.
    • Remove soft contact lenses before instilling the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
  • Side Effects: Common side effects may include eye pain, redness, discomfort, irritation, itching or inflammation, blurred vision, a bad taste in the mouth, dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, and conjunctival hyperaemia.

  • Precautions:

    • Allergies: Do not use if allergic to brimonidine, brinzolamide, sulfonamides (e.g., glipizide, gliclazide), or diuretics (e.g., furosemide).
    • Medical Conditions: Use with caution in patients with liver problems, heart diseases (e.g., coronary heart disease, heart failure), low or high blood pressure, dry eyes, cornea problems (e.g., corneal edema), depression, or poor blood circulation. It is contraindicated in severe kidney problems, hyperchloremic acidosis, or acute angle-closure glaucoma.
    • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Generally not recommended unless clearly necessary and advised by a physician, as brimonidine may pass into breast milk.
    • Driving/Operating Machinery: May cause temporary blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness; avoid these activities until vision is clear.
    • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all medications, including beta-blockers and antihypertensives, as they may interact with SYNCA LS. Do not use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or certain antidepressants.
    • Children: Safety and efficacy have not been established in children, and it is not recommended for those under 18 years.
  • Storage:

    • Store at room temperature, typically between 20-25°C (below 25°C or 30°C).
    • Protect from direct light and moisture.
    • Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
    • Keep out of reach and sight of children.
    • Discard any remaining solution 28 days after opening. Do not freeze.
Frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers about SYNCA LS DROP:

What is SYNCA LS DROP used for?

SYNCA LS DROP is an eye drop primarily used to lower high pressure within the eyes in adults. This includes managing open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is often prescribed when a single medication is not sufficient to control eye pressure effectively.

How does SYNCA LS DROP work?

SYNCA LS DROP is a combination medicine containing Brinzolamide and Brimonidine. Brinzolamide works by inhibiting an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase II, while Brimonidine reduces the production of eye fluid. Together, these active ingredients decrease the production of aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye) and increase its drainage, thereby lowering the intraocular pressure (IOP).

What is the usual dosage for SYNCA LS DROP?

The usual dosage is typically one drop in the affected eye, three times daily, or as directed by your ophthalmologist. The exact dosage and frequency can vary based on the severity of your condition and your response to treatment. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

What are the possible side effects of SYNCA LS DROP?

Common side effects may include eye discomfort (such as burning, stinging, or itching), blurred vision, a bitter taste in the mouth, dry mouth, and eye redness (conjunctival hyperaemia). Some individuals might also experience drowsiness or dizziness. If these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Is SYNCA LS DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: Caution is advised, and SYNCA LS DROP is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless considered necessary by a physician, where the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is categorized as pregnancy category C. Effective contraception should be used while on this medication. Breastfeeding: SYNCA LS DROP should be used with caution during breastfeeding as brimonidine, one of its components, may pass into breast milk. It is best to consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are breastfeeding.

Can SYNCA LS DROP be taken with other medications?

Yes, but several drug interactions are possible. For example, it can enhance the pressure-lowering effect of beta-blockers and increase the blood pressure-lowering effects of some antihypertensives. It should be used with caution or avoided with certain antidepressants (like MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants) and other central nervous system depressants. If you need to use other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, including supplements and herbal products.

What precautions should be taken while using SYNCA LS DROP?

Avoid using SYNCA LS DROP if you are allergic to brimonidine, brinzolamide, sulfonamides, or any other component of the formulation. Exercise caution if you have a history of liver or kidney problems, heart conditions (like coronary heart disease or heart failure), depression, low or high blood pressure, dry eyes, or poor blood circulation. The safety and effectiveness in children under 18 years have not been established. It may cause temporary blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision is clear.

What happens if a dose of SYNCA LS DROP is missed?

If you miss a dose, instill it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should SYNCA LS DROP be stored?

Store SYNCA LS DROP at room temperature, ideally below 25°C or 30°C, away from direct light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and out of the reach of children. Do not freeze the medicine. After opening, discard any remaining solution after 28 days to prevent contamination.

Can I wear contact lenses while using SYNCA LS DROP?

No, you should remove your contact lenses before instilling SYNCA LS DROP. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, as a component (Benzalkonium chloride) can discolor soft contact lenses.
