Description

LOFTAIR L KIT (3x10 Capsule + 1 Inhaler) by LUPIN LTD.

LOFTAIR L KIT is a medication designed for the long-term maintenance treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It is manufactured by Lupin Ltd..

Composition

LOFTAIR L KIT contains a combination of two active ingredients:

  • Indacaterol (110mcg): A long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) that works by relaxing and widening the muscles around the airways, making it easier for air to flow in and out of the lungs.
  • Glycopyrrolate (50mcg): A long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA), also known as an anticholinergic, which helps decrease secretions in the airways and further relaxes the airway muscles.

Uses

LOFTAIR L KIT is prescribed for the long-term management of airflow obstruction in adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This includes conditions such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It helps to improve lung function, alleviate symptoms like shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing, and can reduce the frequency and severity of COPD exacerbations. It is not intended for the relief of sudden breathing problems or acute bronchospasms.

Dosage and Administration

LOFTAIR L KIT is for oral inhalation only, using the provided inhaler device; the capsules should never be swallowed. It should be taken at the same time each day, as advised by your doctor. After inhaling the medicine, it is recommended to rinse your mouth with water and spit it out to help prevent oral fungal infections. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Inflammation of the sinuses (nasopharyngitis/sinusitis)
  • Runny or stuffy nose

Frequently asked questions

What is LOFTAIR L KIT used for?

LOFTAIR L KIT is used for the long-term maintenance treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This includes conditions like emphysema and chronic bronchitis, where it helps to manage airflow obstruction and relieve symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. It is not intended for the relief of sudden breathing problems or acute asthma attacks.

How does LOFTAIR L KIT work?

LOFTAIR L KIT is a combination of two medicines: Indacaterol and Glycopyrrolate. Indacaterol is an ultra long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (ultra-LABA) that relaxes and widens the muscles in the airways, making it easier for air to enter and exit the lungs. Glycopyrrolate is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) or anticholinergic that works by decreasing secretions in the airways. Together, these actions improve breathing for individuals with COPD.

What is the usual dosage of LOFTAIR L KIT?

LOFTAIR L KIT should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It is typically used for oral inhalation, usually once a day, and should be taken at the same time each day. The capsules are for inhalation only and should never be swallowed. Always follow the instructions provided with the inhaler device for correct administration.

What are the possible side effects of LOFTAIR L KIT?

Common side effects may include indigestion, high blood pressure, inflammation of the throat and nasal passages (nasopharyngitis), chest pain, fever, urinary retention, sore throat, cough, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, and muscle spasms. Less common but possible side effects include allergic reactions, increased blood glucose levels, sinus inflammation, urinary tract infection, and upper respiratory tract infection. If side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Rinsing your mouth with water after use can help manage dry mouth and prevent oral thrush.

Is LOFTAIR L KIT safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: LOFTAIR L KIT may be unsafe during pregnancy. While human studies are limited, animal studies have indicated potential harm to the developing baby. Your doctor will assess the benefits against potential risks before prescribing it. It belongs to pregnancy category C.

Breastfeeding: LOFTAIR L KIT is considered probably safe during breastfeeding based on limited human data, suggesting no significant risk to the baby. However, prolonged use might potentially reduce milk production. It is advisable to consult your doctor for guidance if you are breastfeeding.

Can LOFTAIR L KIT be taken with other medications?

LOFTAIR L KIT may interact with certain medications. It is important to inform your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements you are currently taking. Potential interactions include beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol, timolol), steroids (e.g., prednisolone), diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide), other anti-asthma medicines (e.g., theophylline), adrenergic medicines (e.g., epinephrine), Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), and Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs).

What precautions should be taken while using LOFTAIR L KIT?

Several precautions should be observed:

  • Do not use this medicine for sudden breathing difficulties or acute asthma attacks.
  • The first dose should be taken under medical supervision, as it may cause immediate wheezing or tightening of the airways (bronchospasm).
  • Rinse your mouth and throat with water and spit it out after each use to help prevent certain side effects.
  • Do not stop using LOFTAIR L KIT suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it may worsen your symptoms.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol, as it might increase dizziness.
  • LOFTAIR L KIT may cause dizziness; therefore, drive or operate machinery with caution until you know how it affects you.
  • It is not recommended for children under 18 years of age.
  • Inform your doctor if you have pre-existing conditions such as asthma, heart problems, seizures, thyroid gland problems, diabetes, narrow-angle glaucoma, kidney problems, severe liver problems, or difficulty in passing urine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to Indacaterol, Glycopyrronium, or any other ingredients in the kit.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of LOFTAIR L KIT, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

How should LOFTAIR L KIT be stored?

LOFTAIR L KIT should be stored in a cool, dry place, typically below 25°C, and kept out of the reach and sight of children. Always store the capsules in their original blister pack and only remove them immediately before use.
