SUCRAL ANO CREAM 20 GM

SUCRAL ANO CREAM is a topical medication manufactured by STRASSENBURG PHARMACEUTICALS LTD., designed for the treatment and relief of various anorectal conditions.

Composition SUCRAL ANO CREAM contains a combination of three active ingredients:

  • Lidocaine (Lignocaine) 4% w/w: A local anaesthetic that decreases pain sensation by blocking nerve signals.
  • Metronidazole 1% w/w: An antibiotic that prevents bacterial infections in the anal region.
  • Sucralfate 7% w/w: A protectant that forms a protective layer over affected skin, promoting healing and reducing pain, burning, and inflammation.

Uses SUCRAL ANO CREAM is primarily used for the management of anorectal disorders, including:

  • Anal Fissures: Small tears in the lining of the anus, relieving pain and promoting healing.
  • Hemorrhoids (Piles): To reduce pain, itching, swelling, and inflammation associated with swollen veins in the rectum and anus.
  • Fistulae: Abnormal skin openings near the anus.
  • Post-operative Anorectal Discomfort: To aid healing and pain relief following anorectal surgeries.
  • It also helps in managing bedsores and moisturising dry skin around the anal area.

Dosage and Administration This medicine is for external use only. Apply SUCRAL ANO CREAM to the affected area as advised by your doctor. Typically, the rectal area should be clean and dry before application. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the cream. Avoid contact with the nose, ears, mouth, or eyes; if accidental contact occurs, rinse with water thoroughly.

  • Skin rash
  • Mild irritation, tingling, or burning sensation at the application site

  • Do not apply the cream on cuts, wounds, grazes, or raw or blistered skin.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sucral Ano Cream used for?

Sucral Ano Cream is primarily used for the treatment of anorectal conditions such as anal fissures, piles (haemorrhoids), and fistulas. It helps relieve associated symptoms like pain, itching, swelling, and inflammation. The cream also promotes the healing of these conditions and can be used for post-operative anal care and sometimes for bedsores.

How does Sucral Ano Cream work?

Sucral Ano Cream is a combination of three active ingredients: Lidocaine, Metronidazole, and Sucralfate. Lidocaine acts as a local anaesthetic, blocking pain signals from nerves to the brain to reduce pain sensation. Metronidazole is an antibiotic that helps prevent and treat bacterial infections in the anal region by damaging bacterial DNA. Sucralfate works as a protectant, forming a protective layer over the affected skin, which helps prevent further irritation, burning sensation, and inflammation, thus promoting healing and the formation of new healthy skin.

What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?

The cream is for external use only and should be applied as prescribed by your doctor. Typically, a small, thin layer of the cream is applied to the clean and dry affected area, usually two to three times daily. It is often recommended to apply it after bowel movements and before bedtime to allow for extended contact with the affected area. Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the cream. You should continue using the cream for the full duration prescribed by your healthcare provider, even if symptoms improve.

What are the possible side effects of Sucral Ano Cream?

Common side effects can include skin rash, mild irritation, tingling or burning sensation, redness, dry skin, and discomfort at the application site. Most of these side effects are temporary and usually resolve over time. If these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor. Rarely, some individuals may experience allergic reactions.

Is Sucral Ano Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, you should inform your doctor before using Sucral Ano Cream. While some sources suggest it might be safe, others advise caution and state it is not recommended unless considered necessary by a doctor. Your doctor will weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Can Sucral Ano Cream be taken with other medications?

You should inform your doctor about all other medications you are currently taking, especially other topical creams for the same condition, to avoid potential interactions. Sucral Ano Cream may interact with certain medicines, including those used for cardiac arrhythmias (e.g., tocainide, mexiletine), blood clotting (e.g., warfarin), high blood pressure (e.g., propranolol), and stomach ulcers or heartburn (e.g., cimetidine). Although it's an external preparation, if you have kidney or liver disease, diabetes, or blood disorders, discuss this with your doctor before use.

What precautions should be taken while using Sucral Ano Cream?

Sucral Ano Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with your nose, ears, mouth, or eyes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse the area thoroughly with water. Do not apply the cream on cuts, wounds, grazes, or raw or blistered skin. Do not use more than the prescribed dose or frequency. Inform your doctor if you have any known allergies to the ingredients of this cream or if you have irritated skin. To support healing, maintain good hygiene, stay hydrated, and include fiber-rich foods in your diet to prevent constipation. Avoid straining during bowel movements.

What happens if a dose of Sucral Ano Cream is missed?

If you miss a dose of Sucral Ano Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if your next dose is almost due, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one. Generally, skipping a dose is not harmful.

How should Sucral Ano Cream be stored?

Sucral Ano Cream should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. It is typically recommended to store it at room temperature, generally below 25°C or 30°C. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use and ensure it is out of sight and reach of children. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date.
