Frequently asked questions

What is RESPIRA D SYP. used for?

RESPIRA D SYP. is primarily used for the temporary relief of dry cough, allergic cough, and coughs associated with the common cold, flu, and other respiratory allergies. It also helps alleviate symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and throat irritation.

How does RESPIRA D SYP. work?

This medicine contains two active ingredients: Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that blocks the effects of histamine, a chemical messenger involved in allergic reactions, thereby reducing allergy-related coughs and symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that works by decreasing the activity of the cough center in the brain, which helps to reduce coughing.

What is the usual dosage for RESPIRA D SYP.?

RESPIRA D SYP. should be taken orally as directed by your doctor. It is important to shake the syrup well before use and measure the dose accurately with a measuring cup or spoon. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. While it can be taken with or without food, taking it after food may help prevent stomach upset. For adults and children over 12 years, a common recommendation is 2 teaspoonfuls (10ml) four times a day.

What are the possible side effects of RESPIRA D SYP.?

Common side effects may include sleepiness, drowsiness, stomach upset, dry mouth, dry throat, dry nose, blurred vision, dizziness, abnormal coordination, constipation, and restlessness. If you experience persistent or severe side effects, consult your doctor.

Is RESPIRA D SYP. safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

RESPIRA D SYP. is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Limited information is available regarding its safety in human pregnancy, and it's unknown if the components pass into breast milk and could harm the baby. Always consult your doctor before using this syrup if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Can RESPIRA D SYP. be taken with other medications?

You should avoid taking RESPIRA D SYP. if you are currently taking or have taken Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), Sodium Oxybate, or Furazolidone within the last 14 days. Caution is advised when taking it with other medications that cause drowsiness, such as certain pain relievers (e.g., Codeine, Hydrocodone) or medicines for mental illness (e.g., Alprazolam). It's generally advisable to avoid combining it with other cough or cold medicines, as they might contain similar active ingredients, increasing the risk of side effects. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while using RESPIRA D SYP.?

Exercise caution if you have conditions such as breathing problems, glaucoma, heart problems, liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, seizures, an overactive thyroid, stomach problems, or difficulty with urination due to an enlarged prostate. This syrup may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase drowsiness. It is not recommended for children below 2 years of age, and caution is advised in elderly individuals who may be more prone to side effects.

What happens if a dose of RESPIRA D SYP. is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should RESPIRA D SYP. be stored?

RESPIRA D SYP. should be stored at room temperature, ideally below 25°C or between 15°C to 30°C, in a clean and dry place. Protect it from heat, direct light, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and pets.
