Frequently asked questions
Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about SUMO GEL 50 GM by ALKEM LABORATORIES LTD:
What is SUMO GEL 50 GM used for?
SUMO GEL 50 GM is primarily used to relieve muscle and joint pain caused by various musculoskeletal conditions such as strains, sprains, inflammation, arthritis, back pain, neck pain, and shoulder pain. It helps in managing pain, swelling, and stiffness, thereby improving joint flexibility.
How does SUMO GEL 50 GM work?
SUMO GEL 50 GM contains a combination of active ingredients: Diclofenac Diethylamine, Methyl Salicylate, Menthol, and Virgin Linseed Oil. Diclofenac and Methyl Salicylate are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that work by blocking the release of chemical messengers in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Menthol provides a soothing cooling sensation, which helps distract from pain signals and may help reduce inflammation. Linseed Oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, further reduces inflammation, improves blood circulation, and enhances the penetration of Diclofenac into the skin.
What is the usual dosage for SUMO GEL 50 GM?
For adults, SUMO GEL 50 GM should be applied to the affected area 3 to 4 times a day. For children, it can be applied 2 to 3 times a day under supervision. It is meant for external use only; apply a thin layer and gently massage it into the affected area. Always wash your hands thoroughly after application, unless the hands are the area being treated.
What are the possible side effects of SUMO GEL 50 GM?
Common side effects of SUMO GEL 50 GM are usually mild and short-lived, often occurring at the application site. These may include burning or stinging sensation, irritation, itching, redness, and dryness of the skin. If these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
Is SUMO GEL 50 GM safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Information regarding the use of SUMO GEL 50 GM during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not readily available, or it is advised to consult a doctor. Some sources state that Diclofenac (an ingredient in the gel) is not safe during pregnancy, especially after 24 weeks, due to potential fetal risks. Therefore, it is crucial to consult your doctor for advice before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can SUMO GEL 50 GM be taken with other medications?
While medicines used on the skin are generally less likely to interact with oral medications, it's important to inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including other topical preparations. You should avoid applying other topical products like sunscreens, cosmetics, lotions, moisturizers, or insect repellents on the same skin area where SUMO GEL is applied. Oral painkillers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen should be avoided with Diclofenac as it may increase the chance of side effects.
What precautions should be taken when using SUMO GEL 50 GM?
SUMO GEL should only be applied to intact skin surfaces and not on broken, wounded, irritated skin, cuts, or open injuries. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, or mucous membranes; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not cover the treated area with tight bandages or apply heat unless advised by a doctor. SUMO GEL is not recommended for children under 2 years of age, and caution should be exercised when used in older children (2-12 years). Children with viral infections like flu or chickenpox should avoid it, as methyl salicylate may induce Reye's Syndrome. Individuals allergic to diclofenac, aspirin, or other NSAIDs should not use this gel.
What happens if a dose of SUMO GEL 50 GM is missed?
Since SUMO GEL is often used on an as-needed basis for pain relief, if you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply a double amount to make up for a missed dose.
How should SUMO GEL 50 GM be stored?
Store SUMO GEL 50 GM in a cool and dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. It should be stored at room temperature, not exceeding 25°C or below 30°C.
