  • Nasal Polyps: Used to treat and prevent nasal polyps (non-cancerous growths on the lining of the nose or sinuses) in adults aged 18 years and above, by reducing inflammation and shrinking the polyps.

    2. Shake the bottle gently before each use.
    3. Close one nostril and insert the nozzle into the other nostril.
    4. Direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril, away from the middle cartilage.
    5. Press down on the pump to release the spray while gently sniffing or breathing through the nose.
    6. Breathe out gently through your mouth and repeat the process for the other nostril.
    7. Avoid deep breathing that might cause the medication to go back to the throat.
  • The exact dosage and duration of treatment will be determined by the doctor based on the individual's condition, age, and body weight.
  • Do not exceed the suggested dose without consulting your doctor.
  • Any remaining spray must be discarded two months after the bottle is first opened.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Metatop Nasal Spray

What is Metatop Nasal Spray used for?

Metatop Nasal Spray is primarily used to prevent and treat allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and nasal polyps. It can alleviate symptoms associated with hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and perennial rhinitis.

How does Metatop Nasal Spray work?

Metatop Nasal Spray contains Mometasone (50mcg), which is a corticosteroid. It works by being absorbed into the cells of the inner surface of the nose, where it blocks the production of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (swelling) and allergic reactions. This action reduces swelling and irritation, relieving symptoms like blocked or runny nose, sneezing, and sinus discomfort.

What is the usual dosage of Metatop Nasal Spray?

The dosage of Metatop Nasal Spray should always be as advised by your doctor. For children aged 6 years and older, a common recommended dose is one spray into each nostril once daily. It is important to use the medicine regularly to get the full benefit.

What are the possible side effects of Metatop Nasal Spray?

Common side effects may include nasal irritation, sore throat, wheezing, nosebleeds, upper respiratory tract infection, viral infections, and vomiting. Less common but serious side effects with prolonged use can include nasal septum perforation or hormonal changes. If you are concerned about any side effects, consult your doctor.

Is Metatop Nasal Spray safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: Metatop Nasal Spray may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby, and while human studies are limited, your doctor will weigh the benefits and potential risks before prescribing it. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. Breastfeeding: Metatop Nasal Spray is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby. However, it is still advised to consult your doctor.

Can Metatop Nasal Spray be taken with other medications?

There have been no significant interactions reported between Metatop Nasal Spray and many common medications. However, it is always important to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to ensure safety and effectiveness. Specifically, interactions may occur with antifungal medications (e.g., Ketoconazole, Fluconazole), HIV medications (e.g., Ritonavir, Atazanavir), and other corticosteroid medications (e.g., Prednisone, Dexamethasone), and certain antibiotics (e.g., Clarithromycin, Erythromycin).

What precautions should be taken when using Metatop Nasal Spray?

Before using, inform your doctor if you have any untreated infections in the nasal area, a recent nose injury, or have had nasal surgery, as the spray can increase the risk of bleeding, fungal infections, and delay wound healing. Avoid spraying directly onto the nasal septum (the cartilage dividing the two sides of your nose). If you have a history of tuberculosis, liver disease, systemic fungal infections, diabetes, or osteoporosis, discuss these with your doctor. It's best to avoid situations that worsen your symptoms, such as exposure to pollen and dust mites, and it is advisable not to smoke. Do not share the bottle with others to prevent the spread of germs.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of Metatop Nasal Spray, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects.

How should Metatop Nasal Spray be stored?

Metatop Nasal Spray should be stored at room temperature, below 25°C, in a cool and dry place, and away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze it. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Any remaining spray must be discarded two months after you first open the bottle.
