ALBRIM T EYE DROP 5 ML

ALBRIM T EYE DROP 5 ML is an ophthalmic solution manufactured by Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited. It is primarily used to manage elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in various eye conditions.

Composition ALBRIM T EYE DROP contains two active ingredients:

  • Brimonidine Tartrate (0.2% w/v)
  • Timolol Maleate (0.5% w/v)

Brimonidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor and increasing its outflow from the eye. Timolol is a non-selective beta-blocker that reduces the secretion of aqueous humor, both mechanisms contribute to lowering intraocular pressure.

Uses ALBRIM T EYE DROP is prescribed for the treatment of:

  • Open-angle glaucoma: A condition where fluid drains too slowly from the eye, causing pressure build-up and potential optic nerve damage.
  • Ocular hypertension: Characterized by increased pressure inside the eye, which can lead to vision loss if untreated.
  • It can also serve as an adjunctive or replacement therapy when intraocular pressure is inadequately managed by other treatments.

Dosage and Administration The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day, or as directed by a healthcare provider. To administer:

  1. Wash hands thoroughly before use.
  2. Tilt the head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  3. Hold the dropper above the eye and instill the prescribed number of drops, avoiding contact between the dropper tip and the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
  4. Close the eye gently for 1-2 minutes to allow absorption.
  5. If using other eye medications, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes before administering ALBRIM T EYE DROP.
  6. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

Side Effects Common side effects may include:

  • Eye irritation, stinging, burning sensation, or itching in the eyes.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Redness of the eye (conjunctival hyperemia).
  • Foreign body sensation in the eye.
  • Dry eyes or dry mouth.
  • Headache, tiredness, drowsiness, or dizziness.

Serious side effects are rare but may include a serious allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing), chest pain, or irregular heart rate. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.

Precautions

  • Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially reactive airway diseases (like bronchial asthma, severe COPD), heart diseases (e.g., sinus bradycardia, heart block, heart failure), liver or kidney problems, thyroid issues, diabetes, and depression.
  • Not recommended for use in children under 17 years of age.
  • Pregnant women should use this medication only if clearly advised by a doctor. It is not recommended for breastfeeding women as Timolol can pass into breast milk.
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if blurred vision, drowsiness, or dizziness occurs after administration.
  • Alcohol consumption may increase side effects like sleepiness.
  • Avoid contact with soft contact lenses due to potential preservative absorption.

Storage Store ALBRIM T EYE DROP at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and out of reach of children and pets. Do not use if the solution changes color or contains particles.

Frequently asked questions

ALBRIM T Eye Drop, manufactured by ALEMBIC PHARMACEUTICALS LIMITED, is an ophthalmic solution containing a combination of Brimonidine and Timolol. It is primarily used to manage conditions affecting eye pressure.

What is ALBRIM T Eye Drop used for?

ALBRIM T Eye Drop is primarily used to treat elevated pressure inside the eye, a condition known as intraocular hypertension, and open-angle glaucoma. These conditions can damage the optic nerve and potentially lead to vision loss if not managed effectively.

How does ALBRIM T Eye Drop work?

This medication contains two active ingredients: Brimonidine and Timolol. Brimonidine, an alpha-adrenergic agonist, works by reducing the production of fluid (aqueous humor) in the eye and increasing its outflow. Timolol, a beta-blocker, also reduces the production of aqueous humor. By working together through these dual mechanisms, both ingredients synergistically help to lower the pressure inside the eye.

What is the usual dosage for ALBRIM T Eye Drop?

The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day, with doses administered at least 12 hours apart. Your doctor will determine the exact dosage and duration based on your specific condition and response to the medication.

What are the possible side effects of ALBRIM T Eye Drop?

Common side effects may include eye irritation, burning or stinging sensations, itching, redness (conjunctival hyperemia), blurred vision, dry eyes, headache, tiredness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. If these side effects persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor.

Is ALBRIM T Eye Drop safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, you should consult your doctor before using ALBRIM T Eye Drop as information regarding its use during pregnancy is limited. It is generally not advisable for breastfeeding women because Timolol, one of the active ingredients, can pass into breast milk and may potentially harm a nursing infant. Always discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can ALBRIM T Eye Drop be taken with other medications?

It's important to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and other eye drops. Caution is advised when used with other alpha-2 agonists, oral or ophthalmic beta-blockers, certain antihypertensive medications (like calcium antagonists or catecholamine-depleting drugs), quinidine, cardiac glycosides, and CNS depressants. If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes between applying each medication to ensure proper absorption and prevent dilution.

What precautions should be taken when using ALBRIM T Eye Drop?

Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. To prevent contamination, avoid touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface. ALBRIM T Eye Drop may cause temporary blurred vision; therefore, do not drive or operate heavy machinery until your vision is clear. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially eye infections, allergies, asthma, COPD, heart, liver, or kidney problems, diabetes, or thyroid issues. This medication is generally not recommended for children younger than 2 years of age. After instilling the drops, gently press your finger to the corner of your eye near the nose for 1-2 minutes to help minimize systemic absorption.

What happens if a dose of ALBRIM T Eye Drop is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

How should ALBRIM T Eye Drop be stored?

Store ALBRIM T Eye Drop at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and out of reach of children. Do not use the eye drops if the solution changes color or appears to have particles in it. It is recommended to use the solution within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
