Description
HALOVATE SLOTION 30 ML
Name: HALOVATE SLOTION (Brand Name), containing Halobetasol and Salicylic Acid. Manufactured by Eris Lifesciences Limited.
Composition: HALOVATE SLOTION contains Halobetasol (0.05% w/v) and Salicylic Acid (3% w/v) as active ingredients. Halobetasol is a potent topical corticosteroid, and Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic agent.
Uses: HALOVATE SLOTION is prescribed for the management of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, particularly plaque psoriasis. It helps in reducing redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort associated with these conditions. Halobetasol works by blocking chemical messengers that cause inflammation, while Salicylic Acid helps by breaking down keratin clumps, removing dead skin cells, and enhancing the absorption of Halobetasol.
Dosage and Administration: This medicine is for external use only. Apply a thin layer of HALOVATE SLOTION to the affected skin area two or three times daily, or as directed by a doctor. It should not be used for more than 2 weeks. Wash hands thoroughly before and after application, unless the hands are the treated area. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, face, groin, or underarms. Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless advised by a doctor.
Side Effects: Common side effects include burning, stinging, itching, irritation, redness, or dryness at the application site. Other possible side effects are skin thinning, stretch marks, telangiectasia (small, widened blood vessels), application site atrophy, and headache. Serious side effects may include severe burning, worsening rash, vision changes, or unusual weight gain.
Precautions: Avoid using HALOVATE SLOTION if you are allergic to Halobetasol, Salicylic Acid, or any of its ingredients. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age due to increased absorption through the skin. Caution is advised for pregnant and breastfeeding women; consult a doctor before use. Inform your doctor if you have cataract, kidney, liver problems, or diabetes. Do not use on open wounds, infected areas, or broken skin. Prolonged or excessive use can lead to skin thinning and may cause reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression. Do not discontinue use suddenly.
Storage: Store HALOVATE SLOTION in its original container in a clean and dry place, protected from moisture, sunlight, and heat, at room temperature below 25°C or 30°C. Keep the medicine away from children and pets.
Frequently asked questions
Here are frequently asked questions about HALOVATE SLOTION 30 ML:
What is HALOVATE SLOTION used for?
HALOVATE SLOTION, which contains Halobetasol Propionate, is primarily used to treat various inflammatory and itchy skin conditions. These include plaque psoriasis (characterized by thick, scaly, and itchy patches), eczema, and dermatitis. It helps to reduce swelling, redness, irritation, and itching associated with these conditions.
How does HALOVATE SLOTION work?
HALOVATE SLOTION works as a super-potent topical corticosteroid. Its mechanism involves penetrating skin cells and inhibiting the release of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation, redness, itching, and swelling. It achieves this by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, modulating gene expression, inhibiting inflammatory pathways, and suppressing immune cell activity.
What is the usual dosage for HALOVATE SLOTION?
Typically, a thin layer of HALOVATE SLOTION should be applied to the affected skin area once or twice daily, as directed by your doctor. The treatment duration should generally not exceed two weeks, and the total amount used should not surpass 50 grams per week. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
What are the possible side effects of HALOVATE SLOTION?
Common side effects at the application site include burning, itching, irritation, dryness, redness, stinging, and pain. Other possible effects include skin thinning, stretch marks, and headache. More serious, though rare, side effects can include suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and an increased risk of skin infections. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is HALOVATE SLOTION safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is advised to consult your doctor before using HALOVATE SLOTION. Limited human studies are available, and animal studies have shown potential harmful effects during pregnancy. During breastfeeding, it should be used with caution, and application on the nipple or areola area should be avoided to prevent direct ingestion by the infant.
Can HALOVATE SLOTION be taken with other medications?
Since HALOVATE SLOTION is for external topical use, it is less likely to interact significantly with other oral medications. However, it is always important to inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially other steroids or topical preparations, to avoid potential interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using HALOVATE SLOTION?
Do not apply HALOVATE SLOTION to your face, groin, underarms, or scalp unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as these are sensitive areas. Avoid using it on open wounds, sunburned, irritated, or dry skin. Do not cover or wrap the treated area with bandages or occlusive dressings unless advised by your doctor, as this can increase absorption and potential side effects. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have conditions like diabetes, liver disease, adrenal gland disorders, cataracts, or glaucoma.
What happens if a dose of HALOVATE SLOTION is missed?
If you miss a dose of HALOVATE SLOTION, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
How should HALOVATE SLOTION be stored?
HALOVATE SLOTION should be stored in its original container in a clean, dry place, protected from moisture, direct sunlight, and heat. Ensure it is kept out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
