Description
SITALEMBIC D TABLET
Name: Sitalembic D Tablet (Brand Name)
Composition: Sitalembic D Tablet contains a combination of two active ingredients: Dapagliflozin (10 mg) and Sitagliptin (100 mg). Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and Sitagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor.
Uses: This medicine is prescribed for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults to control high blood sugar levels, especially when diet, exercise, and other medications alone are not sufficient. It also helps in improving insulin sensitivity, reducing glucose production in the liver, and increasing glucose excretion through urine. Sitalembic D Tablet can reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease in patients with Type 2 diabetes and existing cardiovascular disease. It is also used to treat chronic kidney disease in adults with reduced kidney function.
Dosage and Administration: Take Sitalembic D Tablet orally, with or without food, as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water; do not chew or crush it. It is important to take it at the same time each day for optimal benefits. Do not stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as it may lead to an increase in blood sugar levels.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include frequent urination, urinary tract infections (UTIs), genital fungal infections, headache, nasal congestion, sore throat, upper respiratory tract infection, diarrhea, and nausea. More serious side effects can include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially when used with other antidiabetic medicines or alcohol.
Precautions: Inform your doctor about any pre-existing kidney or liver problems, heart disease, or urinary tract infections before taking this medicine. Avoid excessive alcohol intake as it may affect blood sugar levels and increase the risk of side effects. Sitalembic D Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Caution is advised in older patients, and it should not be used in children below 18 years of age. This medication should not be used if you have Type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Storage: Store Sitalembic D Tablet in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children. It should be stored at room temperature, ideally between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
Frequently asked questions
Sitalembic D Tablet is a combination medication primarily used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: Dapagliflozin and Sitagliptin.
Here are some frequently asked questions about Sitalembic D Tablet:
What is Sitalembic D Tablet used for?
Sitalembic D Tablet is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially when diet, exercise, and other medications alone (like metformin) are not enough to control blood sugar levels. It helps lower elevated blood glucose and can also reduce the risk of certain cardiovascular events like heart attack and heart failure. Additionally, it may help protect the kidneys from losing function in adults with chronic kidney disease.
How does Sitalembic D Tablet work?
Sitalembic D Tablet combines two different medications: Dapagliflozin and Sitagliptin.
- Dapagliflozin (a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor) works by increasing the removal of sugar from the body through the urine, thereby reducing blood glucose levels.
- Sitagliptin (a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor) helps to increase insulin levels, particularly after meals, and lowers glucagon levels (a hormone that raises blood glucose), which decreases the amount of glucose the liver produces.
What is the usual dosage of Sitalembic D Tablet?
Sitalembic D Tablet is typically taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day for optimal benefits. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.
What are the possible side effects of Sitalembic D Tablet?
Common side effects can include urinary tract infections (UTIs), nasal congestion, sore throat, upper respiratory tract infections, and genital fungal infections. Other possible side effects are headache, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially when used with other anti-diabetic medicines or alcohol. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, consult your doctor.
Is Sitalembic D Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Sitalembic D Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy. One of its active ingredients, dapagliflozin, is contraindicated during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Similarly, it is not advised during breastfeeding as there is limited information on whether it passes into breast milk and could harm the infant. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Can Sitalembic D Tablet be taken with other medications?
Sitalembic D Tablet can interact with certain other medications. Caution is advised when taking it with:
- Diuretics (water pills), as this may increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure.
- Insulin or insulin secretagogues (like sulfonylureas), as this combination can lead to very low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).
- Digoxin (for heart failure)
- Some antibiotics like gatifloxacin and ciprofloxacin, which may affect blood sugar levels. Always inform your doctor about all other medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using Sitalembic D Tablet?
- Do not stop taking Sitalembic D Tablet abruptly, even if you feel better, as this can lead to increased blood sugar levels and serious complications.
- It is not recommended for individuals with type 1 diabetes mellitus or severe kidney or liver disease.
- Consult your doctor if you have a history of kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, or pancreatitis.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it can increase the risk of side effects like diabetic ketoacidosis or hypoglycemia.
- Stay well-hydrated, as the medication can cause you to urinate more often and potentially lead to dehydration.
- Practice good hygiene to prevent genital fungal and urinary tract infections.
What happens if a dose of Sitalembic D Tablet is missed?
If you miss a dose of Sitalembic D Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.
How should Sitalembic D Tablet be stored?
Sitalembic D Tablet should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
