Frequently asked questions

ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION (18G/30 ML) is an antibiotic primarily prescribed for children to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It contains Cefpodoxime proxetil, which is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic.

What is ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION used for?

ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION is used to manage various bacterial infections in children. These include infections of the ears (acute otitis media), nose, throat (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis), lungs (pneumonia, bronchitis), urinary tract (cystitis), skin and soft tissues, and even typhoid fever. It is important to note that this medicine is not effective against viral infections like the common cold or flu.

How does ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION work?

ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION contains Cefpodoxime proxetil as its active ingredient. Cefpodoxime proxetil is a prodrug that is converted into its active form, cefpodoxime, in the body. Cefpodoxime works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing bacteria. It does this by preventing the formation of the bacterial cell wall, which is essential for the bacteria's survival. By disrupting this process, it leads to the death of the bacterial cells.

What is the usual dosage for ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION?

The dosage of ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION is determined by a doctor based on the child's age, body weight, and the type and severity of the infection. It is crucial to follow the prescribed quantity and duration of treatment. The suspension should be shaken well before each use, and the dose should be measured accurately using the provided measuring cup. It is generally recommended to take it with food to avoid an upset stomach and enhance absorption.

What are the possible side effects of ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION?

Common side effects of ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, bloating, skin rash, and itching. Most of these side effects are usually temporary and resolve on their own. However, if they persist or worsen, it is important to consult a doctor. Serious side effects like persistent vomiting, kidney damage, severe allergic reactions (skin rash, swelling of face/mouth, difficulty breathing), or severe gastrointestinal infections should prompt immediate medical attention.

Is ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION is primarily intended for use in children. It is generally not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, you should consult your doctor before taking this medication.

Can ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION be taken with other medications?

ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION can interact with certain other medicines. For example, antacids and anti-ulcer medications (like ranitidine, cimetidine, aluminium hydroxide) should be taken at least 2-3 hours apart from Zedocef 100 Oral Suspension as they can decrease its effectiveness. Certain other antibiotics may also interact. It is important to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products your child is currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken with ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION?

Several precautions should be taken when using ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION. It should be used with caution in children with impaired kidney function, liver problems, or a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis. Your child's doctor may monitor blood count and liver enzymes during treatment. It is not recommended for infants less than 2 months of age. Avoid giving it if your child has a known allergy to cefpodoxime or other cephalosporin antibiotics, or severe allergic reactions to penicillin. It is also advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while on this medication.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If a dose of ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION is missed, it should be given as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Never double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

How should ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION be stored?

ZEDOCEF 100 ORAL SUSPENSION should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. The bottle should be tightly closed after each use, and the medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and pets. For the dry syrup form, follow the reconstitution instructions provided, which usually involve adding specific amounts of sterile water and shaking well.
