Description
DORTAS T EYE DROP 5 ML
DORTAS T Eye Drop, manufactured by INTAS PHARMACEUTICALS LTD., is an ophthalmic solution prescribed for the management of elevated intraocular pressure.
Composition
DORTAS T Eye Drop contains two active ingredients:
- Dorzolamide (2% w/v): A topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor.
- Timolol (0.5% w/v): A topical beta-blocker.
These components work synergistically to decrease the production of aqueous humor (fluid in the eye), thereby lowering intraocular pressure.
Uses
DORTAS T Eye Drop is primarily used for the treatment of:
- Open-angle glaucoma: An eye condition characterized by damage to the optic nerve due to increased fluid pressure within the eye.
- Ocular hypertension: A condition where the pressure inside the eye is higher than normal, which can lead to glaucoma if untreated. By reducing eye pressure, it helps prevent vision loss and optic nerve damage associated with these conditions.
Dosage and Administration
The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, or as directed by a physician. To administer the drops:
- Wash hands thoroughly before use.
- Tilt the head back slightly and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
- Hold the dropper above the eye without touching the tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
- Squeeze gently to release one drop into the pocket.
- Gently close the eye for 2-3 minutes after application and apply slight pressure to the inner corner of the eye (near the nose).
- If using other eye drops, allow at least a 5-10 minute interval between applications.
- Remove contact lenses before instilling the drops and wait at least 15-20 minutes before reinserting them.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Frequently asked questions
Here are the frequently asked questions about DORTAS T EYE DROP 5 ML by INTAS PHARMACEUTICALS LTD.
What is Dortas-T Eye Drop used for?
Dortas-T Eye Drop is primarily used to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. These conditions are characterized by abnormally high pressure within the eyes, which can damage the optic nerve and potentially lead to vision loss if not managed. The eye drops help to reduce this elevated eye pressure.
How does Dortas-T Eye Drop work?
Dortas-T Eye Drop contains a combination of two active ingredients: Dorzolamide and Timolol. Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and Timolol is a beta-blocker. Both work together to decrease the production of aqueous humor, the natural fluid within the eye, thereby reducing the pressure inside the eye.
What is the usual dosage for Dortas-T Eye Drop?
The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) two times a day, usually in the morning and evening, with approximately 12 hours between doses. It is crucial to follow your doctor's exact instructions regarding the dosage and duration of treatment.
What are the possible side effects of Dortas-T Eye Drop?
Common side effects can include a burning or stinging sensation in the eye, eye redness, itching, blurred vision, a bitter or metallic taste in the mouth, mild eye discomfort, headache, and dry or watery eyes. These usually subside over time. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is Dortas-T Eye Drop safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Dortas-T Eye Drop is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy. For breastfeeding mothers, it is also generally not recommended, as Timolol, one of the active ingredients, can pass into breast milk and may affect the nursing baby. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can Dortas-T Eye Drop be taken with other medications?
It is very important to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including other eye drops, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal supplements. If you are using other eye drops, maintain a time gap of at least 5 to 10 minutes between administering Dortas-T Eye Drop and the other medication to prevent dilution. Dortas-T may interact with certain heart medications, other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, sulfonamides, and some plant extracts.
What precautions should be taken while using Dortas-T Eye Drop?
Remove contact lenses before applying Dortas-T Eye Drop and wait at least 15 to 20 minutes before reinserting them. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. If you experience blurred vision or dizziness after instilling the drops, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until your vision clears. Use with caution if you have a history of liver, kidney, heart, respiratory (like asthma or COPD), or thyroid conditions, diabetes, or blood circulation disorders. It is not recommended for severe kidney or heart conditions and generally for children under two years of age.
What happens if a dose of Dortas-T Eye Drop is missed?
If you miss a dose, instill it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill a double dose to make up for the missed one.
How should Dortas-T Eye Drop be stored?
Dortas-T Eye Drop should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, at room temperature (typically between 10°C to 25°C or below 30°C). Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the sight and reach of children.
