Frequently asked questions

GENEGESIC FR GEL is a topical pain relief medication. Here are some frequently asked questions about it:

What is GENEGESIC FR GEL used for?

GENEGESIC FR GEL is primarily used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal conditions. This includes muscular aches, strains, sprains, backache, rheumatic or arthritic pain, joint swelling and stiffness, tendonitis, and tennis elbow.

How does GENEGESIC FR GEL work?

GENEGESIC FR GEL contains a combination of active ingredients: Diclofenac diethylamine, Linseed oil, Menthol, and Methyl Salicylate. Diclofenac diethylamine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain and inflammation by inhibiting substances called prostaglandins. Linseed oil also has anti-inflammatory properties. Menthol provides a cooling sensation to mask pain signals and has local anesthetic effects, while Methyl Salicylate acts as a counter-irritant, further contributing to pain relief.

What is the usual dosage for GENEGESIC FR GEL?

You should apply GENEGESIC FR GEL to the affected area in the dosage and frequency prescribed by your doctor. It is typically applied to the skin and gently massaged until absorbed. Always wash your hands after application, unless your hands are the treated area.

What are the possible side effects of GENEGESIC FR GEL?

Common side effects may include skin redness, rash, itching or irritation, a burning sensation at the application site, and peeling of the skin.

Is GENEGESIC FR GEL safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

GENEGESIC FR GEL is contraindicated in pregnancy, especially during the third trimester, as it may affect the baby. Caution is advised when using the gel while breastfeeding, and it's essential to consult your doctor to discuss potential risks and benefits. Some sources state it has a severe effect for pregnant women and a moderate effect on lactating mothers, generally recommending avoiding use unless advised by a doctor.

Can GENEGESIC FR GEL be taken with other medications?

GENEGESIC FR GEL can interact with certain medications. Concomitant use with anticoagulant ointments (like topical heparin) can increase the risk of bleeding. Using it with antifungal creams (such as ketoconazole or fluconazole) or topical vitamin A (like tretinoin or isotretinoin) could increase skin sensitivity and irritation. You should also avoid applying other topical products like sunscreens, cosmetics, lotions, moisturizers, or insect repellents on the same skin sites. Using it with oral NSAIDs has not been fully evaluated and may increase adverse effects.

What precautions should be taken when using GENEGESIC FR GEL?

This gel is for external use only. Do not apply it to open wounds, broken skin, cuts, burns, or irritated skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not cover the treated area with bandages or other occlusive dressings unless specifically instructed by your doctor. Avoid exposing treated skin to natural or artificial sunlight. It is not recommended for use in children under 14 years of age unless directed by a doctor.

What happens if a dose of GENEGESIC FR GEL is missed?

If you forget to apply the gel, do so as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply extra gel to make up for a missed dose.

How should GENEGESIC FR GEL be stored?

Store GENEGESIC FR GEL in a cool, dry place away from heat. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
