Dosage and Administration: Take Oliza 10 mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is typically taken once daily, with or without food. It's advised to take it at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as it can worsen symptoms or lead to withdrawal effects like sweating, tremors, anxiety, or nausea.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about OLIZA 10 MG TABLET (10 TAB) by INTAS PHARMACEUTICALS LTD.

What is Oliza 10 mg Tablet used for?

Oliza 10 mg Tablet is primarily used in the treatment of schizophrenia, a mental disorder that can cause hallucinations, delusions, and affect a person's ability to think and behave. It is also prescribed for managing manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, and agitation in schizophrenia.

How does Oliza 10 mg Tablet work?

Oliza 10 mg Tablet contains Olanzapine, an atypical antipsychotic medication. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural chemical messengers in the brain, specifically dopamine and serotonin. This action helps to improve mood, thinking, and behavior, and alleviate psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions.

What is the usual dosage for Oliza 10 mg Tablet?

The dosage of Oliza 10 mg Tablet is determined by your doctor based on your condition, age, and response to treatment. For adults, the initial dosage typically starts low and is gradually increased, with a recommended maintenance dosage often ranging from 5 to 20 mg per day. It is usually taken once daily, with or without food, but it's recommended to take it at the same time each day for consistency.

What are the possible side effects of Oliza 10 mg Tablet?

Common side effects include dizziness, sleepiness or drowsiness, dry mouth, weight gain, constipation, muscle stiffness, restlessness, tremors, increased appetite, and a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing up (orthostatic hypotension). Some individuals may also experience increased prolactin levels in the blood, stomach upset, fatigue, and swelling in the hands or feet. In rare cases, more serious side effects like very high blood sugar levels or seizures can occur.

Is Oliza 10 mg Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

During Pregnancy: Oliza 10 mg Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy and should only be used if the potential benefits clearly outweigh the risks, as it is classified as a pregnancy category C drug. Using antipsychotic drugs during the third trimester of pregnancy may cause unwanted symptoms in newborn babies, such as shaking, muscle stiffness, weakness, sleepiness, agitation, breathing problems, and difficulty feeding.

During Breastfeeding: Oliza 10 mg Tablet is generally considered unsafe during breastfeeding. The medication can pass into breast milk and may harm the nursing infant. Therefore, it is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.

Can Oliza 10 mg Tablet be taken with other medications?

It's crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions. Alcohol consumption should be strictly avoided while taking Oliza 10 mg Tablet as it can increase side effects like dizziness and drowsiness. Smoking can also interfere with the effectiveness of Oliza 10 mg Tablet by increasing its metabolism. Olanzapine, the active ingredient, may interact with CYP1A2 inhibitors (like fluvoxamine) and can enhance the hypotensive effects of antihypertensive drugs. It may also antagonize the effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists.

What precautions should be taken while taking Oliza 10 mg Tablet?

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to Olanzapine. It is not advised for elderly individuals with dementia-related psychosis due to an increased risk of death. Inform your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have liver or kidney problems, Alzheimer's disease, heart conditions, high cholesterol, glaucoma, diabetes, bowel issues, sleep apnea, low white blood cell count, breast cancer, enlarged prostate, or a history of seizures. Regular monitoring of weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels is recommended during treatment. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you understand how the medicine affects you, as it can cause dizziness and drowsiness. To prevent a sudden drop in blood pressure, rise slowly when standing up from a sitting or lying position.

What happens if a dose of Oliza 10 mg Tablet is missed?

If you forget to take a dose of Oliza 10 mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. It is important not to stop this medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation can worsen symptoms or lead to withdrawal effects.

How should Oliza 10 mg Tablet be stored?

Oliza 10 mg Tablet should be stored at room temperature, typically below 25°C or 30°C. It should be kept out of reach of children and protected from light and moisture.
