Frequently asked questions

TRAPIC 500mg Tablet contains Tranexamic Acid, an antifibrinolytic medicine used to help control and prevent excessive bleeding.

What is TRAPIC 500mg Tablet used for?

TRAPIC 500mg Tablet is primarily used to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia). It is also prescribed to control abnormal blood loss during or after surgical procedures, nosebleeds (epistaxis), bleeding within the digestive system, blood in urine (when not caused by kidney disease), and for dental extractions in patients with certain bleeding disorders like hemophilia.

How does TRAPIC 500mg Tablet work?

This medicine works by preventing the breakdown of blood clots, thereby helping them stay intact and effectively control bleeding. It achieves this by competitively inhibiting the activation of plasminogen, a substance in the body that dissolves blood clots.

What is the usual dosage of TRAPIC 500mg Tablet?

For adults with heavy menstrual bleeding, the typical dose is 2 to 3 tablets (1000-1500mg) taken three times a day for up to 4 to 5 days during your menstrual period. Treatment should begin when menstrual bleeding has started. The maximum daily dose should generally not exceed 4 grams (8 tablets). Dosage may be adjusted for other conditions or if you have kidney problems.

What are the possible side effects of TRAPIC 500mg Tablet?

Common side effects can include nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain or discomfort, headache, back pain, joint or muscle pain, and fatigue.

More serious side effects are rare but require immediate medical attention. These include allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing), signs of a blood clot (pain, swelling, or warmth in the leg; shortness of breath; chest pain), changes in vision (such as blurry vision or loss of color vision), or symptoms of a stroke (sudden numbness or weakness, severe headache, confusion, trouble speaking or walking).

Is TRAPIC 500mg Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: TRAPIC 500mg Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy and should only be taken if clearly advised and prescribed by a doctor, as it does cross the placenta.

Breastfeeding: It is generally considered safe to take Tranexamic Acid while breastfeeding. The medicine passes into breast milk in very small amounts and typically does not cause adverse effects in babies.

Can TRAPIC 500mg Tablet be taken with other medications?

You should inform your doctor or pharmacist about all other medications you are taking. Caution is advised when taking TRAPIC 500mg Tablet with combination hormonal contraceptives (e.g., birth control pills, patch, vaginal ring, IUD) as this may slightly increase the risk of blood clots. It may also interact with other medications that prevent or treat blood clots (such as certain anticoagulants or fibrinolytic preparations like streptokinase) and tretinoin.

What precautions should be taken while using TRAPIC 500mg Tablet?

Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, a history of blood clots (e.g., deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, or retinal artery/vein occlusion), blood clotting disorders, a history of seizures, or irregular menstrual bleeding. Do not take this medicine when you are not experiencing your menstrual period. If you are on long-term treatment, regular eye examinations may be recommended. Do not take this medicine if you have acquired disturbances of color vision.

What happens if a dose of TRAPIC 500mg Tablet is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one. If you take a late dose, ensure there is at least a 6-hour gap before your next dose.

How should TRAPIC 500mg Tablet be stored?

Store TRAPIC 500mg Tablet in a closed container at room temperature, away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct light. It should be kept out of the reach of children. Avoid freezing the medicine.
