Frequently asked questions
OMNICEF PLUS TAB by ARISTO PHARMA is a combination antibiotic medication used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It contains Cefixime and Ofloxacin as its active ingredients.
What is OMNICEF PLUS TAB used for?
OMNICEF PLUS TAB is primarily used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in adults, including typhoid fever and urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is also effective for respiratory tract infections (like bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis), skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhoea.
How does OMNICEF PLUS TAB work?
OMNICEF PLUS TAB contains two active ingredients: Cefixime and Ofloxacin. Cefixime, a cephalosporin antibiotic, works by preventing the formation of the bacterial cell wall, which is essential for the bacteria's survival. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger that helps the bacteria's genetic material to survive, thereby preventing their multiplication and repair. Together, they kill the infection-causing bacteria.
What is the usual dosage for OMNICEF PLUS TAB?
The usual adult dosage is one tablet, containing Cefixime 200 mg and Ofloxacin 200 mg, taken twice daily or as directed by a physician. It can be taken with or without food. It is crucial to follow the doctor's prescription regarding the dose, frequency, and duration, and to complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve.
What are the possible side effects of OMNICEF PLUS TAB?
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, and dizziness. Some patients might also experience indigestion, loose stools, and rash. If these side effects persist or worsen, or if you experience allergic reactions like rash, itching, swelling of the face/lips/tongue, or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical attention.
Is OMNICEF PLUS TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
OMNICEF PLUS TAB should generally be avoided during pregnancy as there is limited safety information, and animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. It is also advisable not to breastfeed while taking this medication, as a component can pass into breast milk and may be harmful to the baby's joint growth. Consult your doctor for advice before using this medicine if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Can OMNICEF PLUS TAB be taken with other medications?
Some medicines can affect how OMNICEF PLUS TAB works, and vice versa. It is important to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking to avoid possible interactions. Specifically, it should be taken at least two hours before acidity medicines, preparations containing zinc and iron, and certain anti-HIV drugs like Didanosine. There is also a risk of tendon rupture if taken with corticosteroids. Avoid taking it with the cholera vaccine within 14 days of vaccination.
What precautions should be taken while using OMNICEF PLUS TAB?
You should talk to your doctor if you experience allergic reactions, persistent diarrhoea, kidney problems (especially if on dialysis), liver problems, blood disorders (like anaemia or G6PD deficiency), a history of tendonitis after taking antibiotics, muscle weakness, fits, confusion, or other mental health problems. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment as it may worsen side effects. Driving should be avoided if you experience dizziness, confusion, or unusual muscle movements. Patients with Central Nervous System (CNS) disorders or epilepsy should avoid this medication.
What happens if a dose of OMNICEF PLUS TAB is missed?
If you miss a dose of OMNICEF PLUS TAB, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one. It is important not to miss any dose of antibiotics to ensure the effectiveness of the therapy.
How should OMNICEF PLUS TAB be stored?
OMNICEF PLUS TAB should be stored below 25°C in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of reach of children and pets.
