TRIPRIDE 1 MG TABLET (15 TAB)

Name: Tripride 1 mg Tablet, also referred to as Tripride 1MG Tablet.

Composition: Each uncoated bilayered tablet contains:

  • Glimepiride 1 mg
  • Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (in sustained-release form)
  • Pioglitazone Hydrochloride equivalent to Pioglitazone 15 mg

Uses: TRIPRIDE 1 MG TABLET is an oral antidiabetic medication primarily used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is prescribed when blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled through diet and exercise alone, or when single or dual anti-diabetic therapies are insufficient. This medicine helps in the proper utilization of insulin and lowers blood sugar levels.

Dosage and Administration:

  • TRIPRIDE 1 MG TABLET should be taken in the dose and duration advised by your doctor.
  • It is typically taken once daily, preferably with breakfast or the first main meal of the day.
  • The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water; do not crush, chew, or break it.
  • Dosage adjustments are based on individual blood sugar levels and response to the medication, and regular monitoring is crucial. It is important not to alter the dosage on your own.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, weight gain, fluid retention, metallic taste, loss of appetite, and dizziness.
  • Serious Side Effects: Signs of lactic acidosis (cold hands or feet, dizziness, light-headedness, unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pains, nausea or vomiting) and symptoms of heart failure (unusual shortness of breath, rapid increase in weight, swelling in ankles or legs, unusual tiredness) require immediate medical attention.

Precautions:

  • Contraindications: Do not use if allergic to any of the active ingredients, if you have class III or IV heart failure, severe kidney or liver failure, metabolic acidosis (like lactic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidosis), or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Warnings: Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment, heart disease, or a history of bladder cancer.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and serious complications like lactic acidosis.
  • Driving: This medicine can cause low blood sugar levels, leading to drowsiness, visual disturbances, or confusion. Exercise caution when driving or operating machinery.
  • Interactions: Inform your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
  • Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential. Carry a source of fast-acting sugar to treat hypoglycemia.

Storage: Store TRIPRIDE 1 MG TABLET at room temperature, in a cool and dry place, below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Frequently asked questions

TRIPRIDE 1 MG TABLET is a combination medication used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It contains Glimepiride, Metformin, and Pioglitazone as active ingredients.

Here are some frequently asked questions about TRIPRIDE 1 MG TABLET:

What is TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet used for?

TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet is used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults, particularly when diet, exercise, and single-agent therapies are not sufficient to adequately control blood sugar levels. It helps to lower high blood glucose (sugar) levels.

How does TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet work?

TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet contains three active ingredients that work in different ways to control blood sugar:

  • Glimepiride (1 mg): A sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin. Insulin helps cells absorb and utilize glucose for energy, thereby lowering blood sugar.
  • Metformin (500 mg): A biguanide that primarily reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases glucose absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, and increases the body's sensitivity to insulin.
  • Pioglitazone (15 mg): A thiazolidinedione (TZD) that enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues like muscle and fat, allowing cells to use insulin more effectively. It also reduces glucose production in the liver.

What is the usual dosage of TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet?

The dosage of TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet is determined by your doctor based on your blood sugar levels and response to treatment. It is usually taken once daily, preferably with breakfast or the first main meal of the day, with food to minimize stomach upset. It's crucial to follow your doctor's instructions precisely and not to alter the dosage on your own.

What are the possible side effects of TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet?

Common side effects of TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet can include:

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which may present as sweating, shaking, dizziness, headache, or confusion.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and loss of appetite.
  • Headache and dizziness.
  • Weight gain.
  • Upper respiratory tract infections.
  • Bone fractures.

More serious but less common side effects can include lactic acidosis (a buildup of lactic acid in the body), especially if you have kidney problems, and potential worsening of heart failure. You should consult your doctor if any side effects persist or worsen, or if you experience symptoms like cold hands or feet, unusual muscle pain, or trouble breathing.

Is TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy due to the potential risk of harm to the unborn baby. It is also probably unsafe to use while breastfeeding, as the drug may pass into breast milk and harm the baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Can TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet be taken with other medications?

TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet can interact with various medications. Inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal remedies you are currently taking to avoid possible interactions. Specific interactions include:

  • Other diabetes medications (e.g., insulin, sulfonylureas) can increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
  • Certain antibiotics (e.g., rifampicin, chloramphenicol, clarithromycin) may affect blood glucose levels.
  • Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) can mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia.
  • Thiazide diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide) and corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone) may raise blood sugar levels.
  • Oral contraceptives may have reduced effectiveness.
  • Digitalis glycosides like Digoxin, as pioglitazone can increase Digoxin levels.
  • Some painkillers, blood thinners, antacids, and immunomodulatory medicines.

What precautions should be taken?

  • Alcohol: Consumption of alcohol is not recommended while taking TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and, in excessive amounts, lead to serious complications like lactic acidosis.
  • Kidney and Liver Disease: Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment. Your doctor may adjust the dosage and monitor your kidney and liver function regularly. It is not recommended for severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Heart Conditions: Individuals with heart failure should use this tablet with caution as it may worsen the condition. It is contraindicated in Class III or IV heart failure.
  • Driving and Operating Machinery: This medicine can cause low blood sugar levels, which may lead to drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Exercise caution and do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you experience these symptoms.
  • Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Long-term use of metformin (a component of Tripride) can cause vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Bladder Cancer: Pioglitazone has been associated with a potential increased risk of bladder cancer, and it may not be recommended for individuals with a history of bladder cancer.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this can lead to high blood sugar levels or hypoglycemia.

How should TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet be stored?

TRIPRIDE 1 MG Tablet should be stored at room temperature in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Typically, store below 25°C or below 30°C.
