ATORSAVE CV 10

ATORSAVE CV 10 by ERIS LIFESCIENCES LTD is a combination medication designed to manage cardiovascular conditions.

Composition ATORSAVE CV 10 contains two active ingredients:

  • Atorvastatin (10mg): A lipid-lowering medication (statin) that inhibits an enzyme crucial for cholesterol production in the body, thereby reducing "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides, and increasing "good" cholesterol (HDL).
  • Clopidogrel (75mg): An antiplatelet agent (blood thinner) that prevents platelets from sticking together and forming harmful blood clots in the blood vessels.

Uses This medicine is primarily prescribed for the prevention of heart attack and stroke. It is also used to manage and lower elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, while increasing HDL cholesterol, in conditions such as primary hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is beneficial for patients with established cardiovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease, or those at high risk of such events.

Dosage and Administration ATORSAVE CV 10 should be taken orally with food to avoid stomach upset. It should be taken regularly at evenly spaced intervals as prescribed by your doctor, ideally at the same time each day. Do not stop taking it without completing the prescribed course, even if you feel better. The exact dose and duration depend on the treated condition and individual response.

Side Effects Common side effects may include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Muscle pain or weakness (myalgia), joint pain
  • Sleeplessness (insomnia)
  • Increased bleeding tendency

More serious side effects like muscle injury (myopathy, rhabdomyolysis) and liver problems can occur. Consult your doctor if muscle pain, weakness, or yellowing of the skin/eyes occurs.

Precautions

  • Bleeding Risk: ATORSAVE CV 10 increases the risk of bleeding. Exercise caution during activities that may cause injury and inform your doctor of any abnormal bruising or bleeding.
  • Liver Disease: Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease or elevated liver enzymes. It is contraindicated in active liver disease.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: This medicine is generally not recommended during pregnancy (Pregnancy Category X for Atorvastatin) as it may harm the unborn baby. It should also be used with caution during breastfeeding as components may pass into breast milk.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal preparations, and supplements you are taking. Interactions can occur with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), NSAIDs, certain antifungals (e.g., itraconazole), antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, rifampin), and anti-HIV drugs, potentially increasing the risk of bleeding or muscle damage, or altering drug effectiveness.
  • Surgery: Inform your doctor you are taking ATORSAVE CV 10 before any surgical procedure.
  • Alcohol: Concurrent consumption of alcohol can increase the risk of stomach bleeding or liver problems.

Storage Store ATORSAVE CV 10 below 25°C in a clean, dry place, protected from moisture, sunlight, and heat. Keep it in its original packaging, tightly closed, and out of reach of children and pets. Do not use expired medicine.

Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about ATORSAVE CV 10:

What is ATORSAVE CV 10 used for?

ATORSAVE CV 10 is a combination medicine primarily used to prevent serious cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes. It also helps in lowering "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while increasing "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It is used in conditions like primary hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

How does ATORSAVE CV 10 work?

ATORSAVE CV 10 contains two active ingredients: Atorvastatin and Clopidogrel. Atorvastatin works by inhibiting an enzyme in the liver (HMG-CoA reductase) that is essential for cholesterol production, thereby reducing cholesterol levels. Clopidogrel is an anti-platelet medication that prevents platelets from sticking together and forming harmful blood clots, which helps maintain smooth blood flow and reduces the risk of heart problems.

What is the usual dosage for ATORSAVE CV 10?

The dosage of ATORSAVE CV 10 should be taken exactly as advised by your physician. It is generally recommended to take it with food to avoid an upset stomach and at evenly spaced intervals, preferably at the same time each day to help remember. The specific dosage of Atorvastatin in ATORSAVE CV 10 is 10mg.

What are the possible side effects of ATORSAVE CV 10?

Common side effects include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, stomach pain, muscle pain, joint pain, and back pain. More serious, though rare, side effects can include liver damage, severe bleeding, or allergic reactions. Due to Clopidogrel, there is an increased risk of bleeding, so caution should be exercised.

Is ATORSAVE CV 10 safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No, ATORSAVE CV 10 is not recommended during pregnancy as Atorvastatin (one of its components) is classified as a Pregnancy Category X medicine and may harm the developing fetus. It is also generally not recommended for breastfeeding women.

Can ATORSAVE CV 10 be taken with other medications?

ATORSAVE CV 10 can interact with several other medications. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal preparations, and supplements. Key interactions include:

  • Anti-lipidemic agents (e.g., cholestyramine, gemfibrozil)
  • Antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, rifampin, fusidic acid)
  • Antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, fluconazole)
  • Immunosuppressants (e.g., cyclosporine)
  • HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, lopinavir)
  • NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) can increase the risk of stomach or bowel bleeding.
  • Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, aspirin) can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine, sertraline)
  • Proton pump inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole, esomeprazole)
  • Oral contraceptives

What precautions should be taken while taking ATORSAVE CV 10?

It is important to avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice while taking ATORSAVE CV 10, as they can lead to increased side effects and altered effectiveness. Regular monitoring of cholesterol and liver function tests is important. Report any unusual bruising, bleeding, or muscle pain to your doctor immediately. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing liver or kidney diseases or bleeding disorders, and before any surgical procedures. Maintaining a low-fat diet and engaging in regular exercise can enhance the medicine's effectiveness.

What happens if a dose of ATORSAVE CV 10 is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should ATORSAVE CV 10 be stored?

ATORSAVE CV 10 should be stored at room temperature, ideally between 10°C to 25°C or below 30°C. It should be protected from moisture and direct sunlight and kept out of the sight and reach of children.
