Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about PREBRIS MNT Tablet by MANKIND PHARMA LTD.:

What is PREBRIS MNT Tablet used for?

PREBRIS MNT Tablet is a combination medicine primarily used to manage neuropathic pain, especially diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain with coexistent vitamin B12 deficiency. Neuropathic pain is a type of pain caused by damage or injury to nerves. It can also be used for conditions like postherpetic neuralgia (shingles), sciatica, spinal cord injuries, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain syndromes such as lower back pain and migraine prevention.

How does PREBRIS MNT Tablet work?

PREBRIS MNT Tablet combines three active ingredients: Methylcobalamin, Nortriptyline, and Pregabalin. Methylcobalamin, a form of vitamin B, helps in the production of myelin (a protective substance for nerve fibers) and regenerates damaged nerve cells. Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases the levels of chemical messengers like serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain, which helps to stop the movement of pain signals. Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant that reduces pain by altering the calcium channel activity of nerve cells and interfering with pain messages traveling through the brain and spinal cord.

What is the usual dosage of PREBRIS MNT Tablet?

The dosage and duration of PREBRIS MNT Tablet will be determined by your doctor based on your age, body weight, and medical condition. It should be taken as prescribed, either with or without food, and swallowed whole without crushing or chewing. It is important to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent medicine levels.

What are the possible side effects of PREBRIS MNT Tablet?

Common side effects include dry mouth, dizziness, sleepiness, blurred vision, weight gain, trouble concentrating, swelling of hands or feet (peripheral edema), constipation, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue. Some serious but rare side effects can include hypersensitivity reactions, thoughts of self-harm, changes in mood or behavior, increased heart rate, or difficulty with urination. If any side effects worsen or you experience severe symptoms, contact your physician immediately.

Is PREBRIS MNT Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

PREBRIS MNT Tablet is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary by a doctor, as there are limited human studies, and animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. It is also generally not recommended for use during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and could harm the baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can PREBRIS MNT Tablet be taken with other medications?

Before taking PREBRIS MNT Tablet, inform your physician about all other medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking to avoid possible interactions. It can interact with opioid analgesics (e.g., oxycodone, tramadol), medicines for depression and anxiety (e.g., lorazepam, diazepam, MAO inhibitors), medicines for gastroesophageal reflux (e.g., cimetidine, ranitidine), oral contraceptives, cancer chemotherapy medicines, and certain antibiotics. Taking it with alcohol is contraindicated as it may increase dizziness and sleepiness.

What precautions should be taken while using PREBRIS MNT Tablet?

Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, diabetes, heart problems, thyroid problems, or a history of seizures or angioedema. This medicine may cause dizziness, sleepiness, and blurred vision, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms.

What happens if a dose of PREBRIS MNT Tablet is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects.

How should PREBRIS MNT Tablet be stored?

PREBRIS MNT Tablet should be stored in its original packaging at room temperature in a clean and dry place, away from direct sunlight. It should be kept out of the sight and reach of children.
