Description
ANGICAM H TABLET
ANGICAM H TABLET is a combination medication manufactured by BLUE CROSS LABORATORIES LTD, primarily used for the management of high blood pressure.
Composition
Each uncoated tablet contains:
- Amlodipine Besylate IP equivalent to Amlodipine: 5 mg
- Hydrochlorothiazide IP: 12.5 mg
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that helps the body eliminate excess water and certain electrolytes (like sodium and chloride) through urine, which reduces blood volume and blood pressure.
Uses
ANGICAM H TABLET is prescribed for:
- Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when control is not achieved with single agents.
- Reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, and angina (chest pain).
- Helping to protect the kidneys from damage caused by high blood pressure.
- Minimizing water retention and swelling (oedema) caused by fluid overload.
Dosage and Administration
ANGICAM H TABLET is for oral administration. The typical adult dosage is one tablet once daily. If the blood pressure goal is not achieved within 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased to two tablets once daily, as directed by a physician. It can be taken with or without food, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day, preferably in the morning, to avoid frequent nighttime urination. Do not discontinue the medicine without consulting your doctor.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, headache
- Ankle swelling (oedema)
- Flushing (redness and warmth of the skin)
- Fatigue, tiredness, weakness
- Nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea
- Increased urination
- Hyperuricemia (increased blood uric acid levels), dyslipidemia (altered blood lipid levels), glucose intolerance (altered blood sugar levels)
- Decreased potassium level in blood (hypokalemia)
- Palpitations (fast heartbeat)
Serious side effects can include severe hypotension (very low blood pressure), abnormal heartbeat, allergic reactions, very low blood sugar, constriction of airways, or signs of liver or kidney problems.
Precautions
- Contraindications: ANGICAM H TABLET is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to amlodipine, hydrochlorothiazide, other sulfonamide-derived drugs, or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in cases of cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, significant aortic stenosis, severe hypotension, heart failure after acute myocardial infarction, acute porphyria, anuria, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
- Medical Conditions: Use with caution in patients with diabetes (monitor blood sugar levels), kidney disease (kidney function tests are recommended), liver disease, heart disease (can worsen symptoms of heart failure), high cholesterol levels, or gout.
- Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking. It can interact with other antihypertensives, NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen), lithium, cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin), antifungals (e.g., amphotericin B), and immunosuppressants (e.g., cyclosporine, tacrolimus). Medications affecting CYP3A4 enzymes can also alter amlodipine levels.
- Lifestyle: Avoid consumption of alcohol as it may increase dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice as it may severely decrease blood pressure. Avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight as the medicine can increase skin sensitivity.
- Driving and Machinery: This medicine may cause dizziness or sleepiness; therefore, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.

Frequently asked questions
ANGICAM H TABLET is a medication primarily used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It is manufactured by BLUE CROSS LABORATORIES LTD and contains a combination of two active ingredients: Amlodipine and Hydrochlorothiazide.
Here are some frequently asked questions about ANGICAM H TABLET:
What is ANGICAM H TABLET used for?
ANGICAM H TABLET is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). By effectively controlling blood pressure, it helps to reduce the risk of future complications such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems.
How does ANGICAM H TABLET work?
This medicine combines two antihypertensive agents: Amlodipine and Hydrochlorothiazide. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, which improves blood flow. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (a "water pill") that helps the body eliminate excess water and certain electrolytes through urine, thereby reducing blood volume and blood pressure.
What is the usual dosage for ANGICAM H TABLET?
The typical adult dosage is one tablet once daily. If the blood pressure goal is not achieved within 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased to two tablets once daily, as advised by your doctor. The dosage should always be individualized by a physician. Each tablet usually contains Amlodipine 5 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg.
What are the possible side effects of ANGICAM H TABLET?
Common side effects may include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, sleepiness, ankle swelling, flushing (a sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck, and trunk), tiredness, nausea, and increased urination. It can also cause glucose intolerance (changes in blood sugar), decreased potassium levels, increased uric acid, and altered blood lipid levels. Most side effects are usually mild and resolve over time, but if they persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is ANGICAM H TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
ANGICAM H TABLET is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless your doctor considers it essential, as it can cause adverse effects in the baby, such as electrolyte imbalance, jaundice, or decreased platelets. Similarly, it should not be used while breastfeeding unless clearly necessary, as the active ingredients can pass into breast milk and potentially affect the nursing infant. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Can ANGICAM H TABLET be taken with other medications?
ANGICAM H TABLET can interact with various medications. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all other medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking. Interactions can occur with cardiac glycosides (like digoxin), antifungals (like amphotericin B, ketoconazole, itraconazole), certain cholesterol-lowering medicines (like simvastatin, colestipol), antidiabetic drugs, Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), lithium, and some immunosuppressants (like cyclosporine, tacrolimus). Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase dizziness and drowsiness. Grapefruit juice may also interact with amlodipine, increasing its levels in the body.
What precautions should be taken while using ANGICAM H TABLET?
Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, heart failure, a heart valve problem, a history of heart attack, diabetes, or gout. Since the medication can cause dizziness or sleepiness, exercise caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Do not stop taking the medicine abruptly without consulting your doctor, as sudden discontinuation can lead to changes in heart rhythm and blood pressure. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, potassium levels, and blood sugar levels is recommended.
What happens if a dose of ANGICAM H TABLET is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.
How should ANGICAM H TABLET be stored?
ANGICAM H TABLET should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children.
