DORTAS EYE DROPS 5ML

DORTAS EYE DROPS is an ophthalmic solution manufactured by INTAS PHARMACEUTICALS LTD, primarily used to manage elevated pressure within the eyes.

  • Composition

    • Active Ingredients: Dortas Eye Drops contain Dorzolamide 2% w/v. Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor, the fluid filling the anterior chamber of the eye, thereby lowering intraocular pressure.
    • Preservative: It also contains Benzalkonium Chloride 0.02% w/v, which acts as a preservative to prevent bacterial contamination.
  • Uses DORTAS EYE DROPS are prescribed for:

    • Lowering increased eye pressure in individuals with open-angle glaucoma.
    • Managing elevated intraocular pressure in patients suffering from ocular hypertension.
    • Preventing further damage to the optic nerve and preserving visual function, which helps to avoid progressive vision loss associated with these eye conditions.
  • Dosage and Administration

    • Typically, instill one drop into the affected eye(s) two to three times daily, or as directed by your doctor.
    • To prevent contamination, avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye itself.
    • After instilling the drop, gently close your eyes and lightly press on the inner corner of your eye (near your nose) for about 1-2 minutes to reduce systemic absorption and minimize side effects.
    • If using other topical ophthalmic medications concurrently, ensure you wait at least 10 minutes between each medication.
    • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying Dortas Eye Drops and wait at least 15 minutes before re-inserting them.
  • Side Effects Common side effects may include:

    • Eye irritation, burning, or stinging sensation in the eye.
    • Bitter taste in the mouth.
    • Blurred vision.
    • Dry eyes or watery eyes.
    • Headache.
    • Eyelid inflammation or crusting.
    • Nausea. Serious side effects such as severe eye pain or significant vision changes should prompt immediate medical consultation.
  • Precautions

    • Inform your doctor about any known allergies to dorzolamide, benzalkonium chloride, or sulphonamides.
    • Exercise caution and inform your doctor if you have kidney disease (especially severe impairment or kidney stones), liver disease, dry eyes, or cornea problems.
    • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should consult their doctor before using this medicine.
    • Do not stop using Dortas Eye Drops suddenly, as it can lead to increased eye pressure and potential vision damage.
    • Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience blurred vision after using the drops.
    • Inform your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications you are taking, especially other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors or ocular glaucoma medications, to avoid potential drug interactions.
    • Dortas Eye Drops should be administered to children under 18 only under medical supervision.
  • Storage

    • Store Dortas Eye Drops in a cool and dry place.
    • Keep it away from direct sunlight.
    • Maintain storage at room temperature, generally between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
    • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
Frequently asked questions

DORTAS EYE DROPS 5ML by INTAS PHARMACEUTICALS LTD

What is Dortas Eye Drops used for?

Dortas Eye Drops are primarily used to lower high pressure inside the eye. This is crucial for treating conditions such as open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension, which can otherwise lead to damage to the optic nerve and potential vision loss.

How does Dortas Eye Drops work?

Dortas Eye Drops contain Dorzolamide, which is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It works by reducing the production of aqueous humor, the fluid inside the eye. By decreasing this fluid, the eye drops effectively lower the elevated intraocular pressure.

What is the usual dosage for Dortas Eye Drops?

The usual dosage for Dortas Eye Drops is one drop instilled into the affected eye three times a day, or as directed by your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of Dortas Eye Drops?

Common side effects may include a burning or stinging sensation in the eye, eye irritation, blurred vision, a bitter or unusual taste in the mouth, eye redness, dry eyes, headache, and fatigue. Less common but serious side effects can include severe allergic reactions or inflammation of the eye or eyelid.

Is Dortas Eye Drops safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Dortas Eye Drops are generally not recommended during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor. For breastfeeding mothers, caution is advised as the medication may pass into breast milk and could potentially harm the baby. It is recommended to talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

Can Dortas Eye Drops be taken with other medications?

Dortas Eye Drops are less likely to interact with other externally applied medications. However, it's important to inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (like acetazolamide or brinzolamide) or salicylates (like aspirin), as combined use can increase the risk of systemic side effects. If you are using other eye medications, instill them at least 5 minutes apart.

What precautions should be taken while using Dortas Eye Drops?

Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, other eye conditions (such as infections or a history of eye surgery), allergies (especially to sulfonamides), diabetes, heart, or respiratory diseases. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Avoid touching the dropper tip to prevent contamination of the solution. Do not stop using the drops suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this could increase eye pressure. If you experience blurred vision after using the drops, avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision clears.

What happens if a dose of Dortas Eye Drops is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra drops to make up for a missed dose.

How should Dortas Eye Drops be stored?

Dortas Eye Drops should be stored at room temperature, ideally below 25°C or between 10°C to 25°C, and away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children and pets. Once opened, the bottle should be used within 4 weeks.

How long does Dortas Eye Drops take to work?

Dorzolamide, the active ingredient in Dortas Eye Drops, begins working within approximately 2 hours after administration, with its maximum effect typically observed after 3 hours. The pressure-lowering effect can last for 8 to 12 hours. It may take about 1 to 4 weeks to show optimal results.
