Children not adequately responding to 55 mcg may use 110 mcg (two sprays in each nostril) once daily. Once symptoms are controlled, the dosage may be decreased to 55 mcg once daily.
  • Administration Instructions: Insert the bottle tip into one nostril, closing the other. Direct the spray towards the sides of the nostril, away from the nasal septum. Breathe gently as you spray and keep the head upright. Repeat for the other nostril if required.

Frequently asked questions

FLOMIST F Nasal Spray is a corticosteroid medication used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis. It contains Fluticasone Furoate as its active ingredient, which works by reducing inflammation in the nasal passages.

Here are some frequently asked questions about FLOMIST F Nasal Spray:

What is FLOMIST F Nasal Spray used for?

FLOMIST F Nasal Spray is used to treat symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children 2 years of age and older. This includes symptoms like a stuffy, runny, or itchy nose, sneezing, and watery, itchy, or red eyes, which can be caused by allergies to pollen, animals, house-dust mites, or molds. It is not intended for treating symptoms of the common cold.

How does FLOMIST F Nasal Spray work?

FLOMIST F Nasal Spray belongs to a class of medicines called glucocorticoids or corticosteroids. It works by decreasing inflammation caused by allergies. Specifically, it blocks the production and release of certain chemical messengers, such as histamines and prostaglandins, in the body that trigger inflammation, swelling, redness, and allergic reactions in the nasal passages, thereby relieving discomfort and irritation.

What is the usual dosage for FLOMIST F Nasal Spray?

For adults and adolescents 12 years of age and over, the recommended starting dosage is 110 mcg once daily, administered as two sprays (27.5 mcg/spray) in each nostril. Once symptoms are under control and maximum benefit is achieved, the dosage may be reduced to 55 mcg (one spray in each nostril) once daily. For children aged 2 to 11 years, the recommended starting dosage is 55 mcg once daily, administered as one spray in each nostril. If symptoms do not adequately respond, the dose may be increased to 110 mcg (two sprays in each nostril) once daily, then reduced back to 55 mcg once daily once symptoms are controlled. Always administer the spray intranasally only and shake the bottle gently before each use. Full effects may take a few days to be observed.

What are the possible side effects of FLOMIST F Nasal Spray?

Common side effects include nosebleeds (especially with continuous use for over 6 weeks), nasal ulceration (which can cause irritation or discomfort in the nose), nasal discomforts such as burning, itching, soreness, or dryness inside the nose, shortness of breath, and headaches. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as severe wheezing, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, skin rashes, or sudden weakness can occur, requiring immediate medical attention. Long-term use in children may lead to slowed growth, and eye conditions like glaucoma or cataracts have been reported; if you experience blurred vision, inform your doctor. This medicine can also weaken the immune system, increasing susceptibility to infections like chickenpox, measles, or tuberculosis.

Is FLOMIST F Nasal Spray safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

During pregnancy, FLOMIST F Nasal Spray should only be used if the potential benefits to the mother justify the potential risks to the fetus. Animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. When breastfeeding, it is unknown if the fluticasone furoate is excreted in human breast milk. Therefore, its use should only be considered if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs any possible risk to the child, and it is generally considered safe under medical supervision. Always consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can FLOMIST F Nasal Spray be taken with other medications?

Concomitant use of FLOMIST F Nasal Spray with certain medications, particularly strong CYP3A4 inhibitors like ritonavir and cobicistat (used for HIV treatment) or ketoconazole and itraconazole (antifungal medications), is not recommended as it can increase the systemic exposure of fluticasone furoate. You should also avoid using other nasal sprays that contain steroid medication at the same time. Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, or herbal preparations you are taking.

What precautions should be taken when using FLOMIST F Nasal Spray?

Avoid getting the spray into your eyes; if this happens, rinse your eyes thoroughly with water. Do not use this spray if you have a known hypersensitivity to fluticasone furoate or any of its excipients. Inform your doctor if you have had recent nose surgery, an injury, or nose sores, or if you have existing eye conditions like glaucoma or cataracts. Due to its effect on the immune system, you should try to avoid contact with individuals who have contagious diseases like chickenpox, measles, or tuberculosis. In children receiving prolonged treatment, regular monitoring of their height is recommended due to the potential for growth retardation.

What happens if a dose of FLOMIST F Nasal Spray is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.

How should FLOMIST F Nasal Spray be stored?

FLOMIST F Nasal Spray should be stored below 30°C. Keep it in its product carton to protect it from light and store it in an upright position. Always keep the medication out of the sight and reach of children.
