- Benzalkonium chloride (0.005%): An antimicrobial preservative.

Frequently asked questions
What is ZYLOPRED DROP used for?
ZYLOPRED DROP (Zylopred Ophthalmic Suspension) is primarily used for managing inflammatory ocular conditions where there is a risk of superficial bacterial eye infection. It is prescribed to treat bacterial eye infections and associated inflammation, including conditions like conjunctivitis, keratitis, and blepharitis. This medicine helps in reducing redness, swelling, and pain in the eyes caused by inflammation and infection. It is also used after eye operations for conditions associated with swelling and bacterial infections or where there are chances of bacterial infections.
How does ZYLOPRED DROP work?
ZYLOPRED DROP is a combination medicine containing Gatifloxacin and Loteprednol etabonate. Gatifloxacin is an antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication and cell division, effectively killing the bacteria that cause the infection. Loteprednol etabonate is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by blocking the production of substances like prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are responsible for itching, swelling, and redness in the eyes.
What is the usual dosage?
ZYLOPRED DROP should be used as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage can vary depending on the severity of your condition and how well you respond to the medicine. Typically, it might be recommended to use it 2-3 times a day for a minimum of one week, or as advised by your healthcare professional. For some conditions like iritis, a dosage of 2 drops every 6 hours for 3 days has been mentioned. It is important to follow the directions carefully and not to miss doses.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects of ZYLOPRED DROP can include eye irritation, eye pain, itching, foreign body sensation, blurred vision, stinging sensation, redness of the eyes, dry eyes, and discharge from the eyes. Other less common side effects reported include headache, change in taste sensation, burning sensation at the instillation site, rhinitis, pharyngitis, abnormal vision, chemosis, corneal inflammation, eyelid erythema, and papillary conjunctivitis. Most side effects are temporary and usually resolve upon discontinuing the use of the eye drops.
Is ZYLOPRED DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Caution is advised while using ZYLOPRED DROP during pregnancy. It is recommended to consult your doctor before using this medicine, and it should only be used if the benefit outweighs the potential risk. Similarly, if you are breastfeeding, it is wise to exercise caution, and it is not known whether components of this medicine pass into breast milk. Your doctor will assess the potential benefits and risks for you and your baby.
Can ZYLOPRED DROP be taken with other medications?
ZYLOPRED DROP is less likely to interact with other medicines since it is meant for external use. However, it can interact with certain medications. Anticholinergic medicines like atropine and antihistamines like cetirizine or loratadine may increase eye pressure when used alongside ZYLOPRED DROP. It is crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications, including eye drops, you are currently taking. Wait for at least 10 minutes before administering any other eye drops in the same eye to avoid dilution.
What precautions should be taken?
Avoid prolonged use of ZYLOPRED DROP as it can lead to increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma), vision loss, cataracts (clouding of the eye), and an increased risk of secondary infections. Do not use ZYLOPRED DROP if you have a known allergy to any of its ingredients, or if you have viral infections (such as herpes simplex), fungal, or parasitic infections of the eye, or redness of unknown cause.
ZYLOPRED DROP may cause temporary blurred vision, so avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision is clear. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you forget to use ZYLOPRED DROP at the scheduled time, instill it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double up on doses to compensate for a missed one without your doctor's advice.
How should it be stored?
ZYLOPRED DROP should be stored upright in a cool, dry place, typically at 2° to 25°C, and away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze the medication. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Once opened, use the medicine within one month.
