Frequently asked questions

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers about ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE (10 CAP) by SUN PHARMACEUTICAL IND.LTD.

What is ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE used for?

ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE is primarily used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), also known as acid reflux. It helps manage symptoms such as heartburn, chest pain, nausea, acidity, indigestion, and bloating. It is also used in treating conditions like gastric and duodenal ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition with overproduction of acid due to a pancreatic tumor).

How does ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE work?

This medicine contains two active ingredients: Rabeprazole (20 mg) and Domperidone (30 mg). Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces acid production in the stomach by blocking certain cells called proton pumps. Domperidone is a prokinetic agent that increases the movement of the stomach and intestines, tightening the muscles at the top of the stomach and relaxing those at the bottom. This action helps food move more easily through the digestive system and prevents acid from flowing back into the food pipe, also blocking the vomiting-inducing center in the brain.

What is the usual dosage for ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE?

The usual adult dosage is typically one capsule taken once daily, preferably 30 minutes before breakfast or on an empty stomach. The exact dose and duration will be prescribed by your doctor based on your condition and response to the medication. It's crucial not to exceed the prescribed dosage without consulting your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE?

Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, flatulence (gas), dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and weakness. Most of these side effects are temporary and usually resolve over time. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, such as allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing), irregular heartbeat, or muscle weakness, you should seek immediate medical attention.

Is ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: Caution is advised when taking ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE during pregnancy. While some sources suggest it may be safe if prescribed by a doctor after weighing benefits against risks, others indicate potential risks to the unborn baby. Always consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Breastfeeding: Small amounts of Domperidone, one of the components, may pass into breast milk. Some information suggests it's probably unsafe, while other sources indicate limited human data suggesting no significant risk to the baby if prescribed. It is important to consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding to assess the benefits versus risks.

Can ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE be taken with other medications?

ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE can interact with certain medications. Inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking. Notable interactions include:

  • Anticoagulants like warfarin, which may increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Antibiotics like erythromycin, which may increase the effect of this capsule.
  • Antifungals like ketoconazole and fluconazole, as rabeprazole can affect their absorption.
  • Antivirals like ritonavir.
  • Cardiac glycosides like digoxin, which may lead to toxicity.
  • Methotrexate and tacrolimus.
  • Medications that require stomach acid for absorption (e.g., iron salts). Concomitant use with rilpivirine is contraindicated.

What precautions should be taken while using ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE?

  • Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, heart conditions (like heart failure or arrhythmias), or a history of pituitary tumors (prolactinomas).
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it can increase stomach acid and worsen side effects like nausea and dizziness.
  • Do not crush, chew, or split the capsule; swallow it whole with water.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or sleepiness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Long-term use may cause deficiencies in Vitamin B12, calcium, magnesium, and Vitamin D.
  • If you experience watery diarrhea, fever, or stomach pain that does not go away, inform your doctor.

What happens if a dose of ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one without consulting your doctor.

How should ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE be stored?

Store ROLES D (NEW) CAPSULE in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep it in its original container, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use expired or damaged medicine.
