Description

AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET

AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is a medication manufactured by J.B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd. primarily used in the management of chronic heart failure.

  • Composition: Each tablet contains Sacubitril 49 mg and Valsartan 51 mg. This combination belongs to a class of medicines known as Angiotensin Receptor Neprilysin Inhibitors (ARNIs).

  • Uses: AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is prescribed for the treatment of heart failure in adults and children over one year of age, particularly in those with chronic heart failure and reduced ejection fraction. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood throughout the body, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization.

  • Dosage and Administration: This medicine should be taken orally as advised by a physician. It can be consumed with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not chewed, crushed, or broken. For consistent efficacy, it is recommended to take the dose at the same time each day. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or stop the medication abruptly without consulting a doctor.

  • Side Effects:

    • Common: Low blood pressure (hypotension), cough, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, weakness, headache, impaired kidney function, and high potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalaemia).
    • Serious (less common): Angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat).
  • Precautions:

    • Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver diseases, as dose adjustments may be necessary.
    • Avoid taking AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET with ACE inhibitors; a washout period of at least 36 hours is required before or after taking an ACE inhibitor.
    • It is contraindicated in pregnancy and not recommended during breastfeeding.
    • Caution is advised when consuming alcohol as it may increase dizziness.
    • Patients should rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to prevent dizziness due to a sudden drop in blood pressure.
    • Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods, as this medicine can increase blood potassium levels.
    • Disclose all current medications, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal preparations, and supplements, to your doctor to prevent potential drug interactions.
  • Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture, ideally below 30°C (or between 10ºC to 25ºC). Keep the tablets out of the sight and reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is a prescription medication used to treat certain heart conditions. Below are some frequently asked questions about this medicine.

What is AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET used for?

AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is primarily used to treat chronic heart failure in adults and children over one year of age. It helps reduce the risk of hospitalization and cardiovascular death in patients with long-term heart failure, particularly those with a reduced ejection fraction. It can also help manage symptoms like breathlessness, fatigue, and leg swelling. Some sources also mention its use in hypertension management and cardiovascular protection.

How does AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET work?

AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is a combination of two active ingredients: sacubitril and valsartan, belonging to a class of medications called angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitors (ARNIs). Sacubitril works by inhibiting neprilysin, an enzyme that breaks down certain beneficial peptides in the body, such as natriuretic peptides. This action increases the levels of these peptides, which helps relax and widen blood vessels, reduce fluid retention, and decrease the strain on the heart. Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. By blocking angiotensin II, valsartan helps relax blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and reduce the workload on the heart. Together, these two components improve heart function and blood flow.

What is the usual dosage for AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET?

The dosage of AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and response to the medication. It is typically taken orally, usually twice daily, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not chewed, crushed, or broken. It is important to take the medicine regularly at the same time each day for consistent levels in the body.

What are the possible side effects of AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET?

Common side effects of AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET include low blood pressure (hypotension), increased potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia), impaired kidney function, cough, and dizziness. Other possible side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, weakness, headache, fainting, and stomach pain. Most side effects are temporary and often resolve over time. If side effects persist or worsen, it is advised to consult your doctor.

Is AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No, AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is not recommended during pregnancy. There is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby, and it should not be taken after the first three months of pregnancy as it can harm the unborn baby. If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, stop immediately and contact your doctor. It is also generally contraindicated for breastfeeding/lactating women.

Can AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET be taken with other medications?

It is crucial to inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, herbal products, and supplements. AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET should not be taken with ACE inhibitors (e.g., captopril, enalapril) due to an increased risk of side effects like angioedema; a gap of at least 36 hours before or after taking an ACE inhibitor is necessary. Concomitant use with aliskiren (a blood pressure medication) is also not recommended, especially in patients with diabetes or kidney disease. Taking it with potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium can increase blood potassium levels. NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) may reduce its blood pressure-lowering effects and worsen kidney function, especially in elderly, dehydrated, or kidney-impaired patients.

What precautions should be taken while taking AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET?

Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver diseases, as dose adjustments may be needed or the medicine might be contraindicated in severe cases. Be cautious of orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure when standing) and rise slowly from a sitting or lying position. Inform your doctor if you have diabetes. Avoid potassium-rich foods like bananas, oranges, and potatoes, and potassium supplements, as the medicine can increase potassium levels. Do not take it if you have a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat). Alcohol consumption should be done with caution, as it may increase dizziness. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function may be advised.

What happens if a dose of AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET is missed?

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET be stored?

AZMARDA 100 MG TABLET should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. It should be kept out of the sight and reach of children. Store it at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. Keep the pack tightly closed and in its original packaging to protect it from light.
