Description
SCABELICE LOTION 50 ML
SCABELICE LOTION is a topical medication manufactured by Mankind Pharma Ltd., primarily used for the treatment of parasitic skin infestations.
Composition SCABELICE LOTION contains two active ingredients:
- Lindane (Gamma Benzene Hexachloride) 1% w/v: An insecticide that paralyzes and kills mites, lice, and their eggs.
- Cetrimide 0.1% w/v: An antiseptic agent with antibacterial and antifungal properties that helps to prevent secondary infections and soothe the skin.
Uses SCABELICE LOTION is prescribed for:
- Scabies: A contagious skin infestation caused by tiny mites (Sarcoptes scabiei) that burrow into the skin, leading to intense itching, redness, and irritation. It works by killing the mites and their eggs.
- Head Lice (Pediculosis): Infestations of small parasitic insects on the scalp and hair, which the lotion helps eliminate along with their eggs (nits).
- It can also be used to treat wounds, cuts, and minor burns to protect against infections due to its antiseptic properties.
Dosage and Administration SCABELICE LOTION is for external use only.
- It should be used in the dose and duration as advised by a doctor.
- Wash hands before and after application.
- Apply a thin layer evenly to the affected areas, typically all over the body for scabies (excluding the face and eyes).
- Leave the lotion on for 8-14 hours (commonly 8-12 hours) before washing off thoroughly with warm water.
- Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, mucous membranes, broken skin, or large areas. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with water.
Side Effects Common side effects include:
- Application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching, redness)
- Dry skin
- Hair loss
- Rashes
- Tingling and numbness of the skin
Serious side effects, though rare, can include seizures, especially with overuse or in susceptible individuals.
Precautions
- Allergies: Do not use if allergic to Lindane, Cetrimide, or any other components of the medicine.
- Contraindications: Avoid in premature infants, neonates, individuals with uncontrolled seizures, severely damaged skin, crusted scabies, or severe skin diseases like eczema or psoriasis.

Frequently asked questions
SCABELICE LOTION 50 ML by MANKIND PHARMA LTD. - Frequently Asked Questions
What is Scabelice Lotion used for?
Scabelice Lotion is primarily used to treat skin conditions like scabies, which is caused by tiny mites, and pediculosis (head lice infestation). It is also used as a topical antiseptic for wounds, minor cuts, and burns to protect against infections.
How does Scabelice Lotion work?
Scabelice Lotion contains two active ingredients: Cetrimide and Gamma benzene hexachloride (Lindane). Cetrimide acts as an antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal agent by damaging the cell membranes of microorganisms, leading to their death. Gamma benzene hexachloride (Lindane) is an anti-parasitic agent that works by killing lice, their eggs, and scabies mites by disrupting their nervous system.
What is the usual dosage for Scabelice Lotion?
The dosage and duration should be followed as prescribed by your doctor. Typically, a thin layer of the lotion is applied to the affected areas of the body, excluding the face and eyes. It is usually left on for 8 to 14 hours before being washed off thoroughly with warm water. This medicine is for external use only.
What are the possible side effects of Scabelice Lotion?
Common side effects can include application site reactions such as burning, irritation, itching, and redness. Other possible side effects are dry skin, skin rash, tingling, numbness, hair loss, drowsiness, and headache. If these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is Scabelice Lotion safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Scabelice Lotion is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary and advised by a doctor. Limited information is available regarding its safety, and it is known to pass into human breast milk. It is crucial to discuss all risks and benefits with your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can Scabelice Lotion be taken with other medications?
Since Scabelice Lotion is for external use, it is less likely to have significant interactions with many other medications. However, caution is advised, as certain medications, including antipsychotics, antidepressants, theophylline, immunosuppressants (like cyclosporine, tacrolimus), some antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, imipenem, quinolones), chloroquine, pyrimethamine, isoniazid, meperidine, methocarbamol, centrally active anticholinesterases, and radiographic contrast agents, may increase the chance of seizures if used concurrently. Always inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including herbal supplements.
What precautions should be taken when using Scabelice Lotion?
Scabelice Lotion is for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, mouth, and ears; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. It is not recommended for individuals with a history of seizures, severe skin damage, crusted scabies, severe eczema, or psoriasis. Use with caution in neurotoxicity. Avoid using large amounts or for longer than prescribed, as this can increase the risk of side effects. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the lotion. Also, it's advised not to use oil, shampoo, or soap an hour before application or when washing off the medicine. After treating scabies, machine-wash clothes, towels, and bed linen with hot water to kill mites.
What happens if a dose of Scabelice Lotion is missed?
If you miss an application of Scabelice Lotion, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
How should Scabelice Lotion be stored?
Scabelice Lotion should be stored at room temperature, ideally below 30°C (or 20-25°C), and should not be frozen. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Ensure that any unused medicine is disposed of properly.
