Frequently asked questions

Ibugesic Plus Tablet by Cipla-Optimus Div is a combination medication containing Ibuprofen and Paracetamol, commonly used for pain relief and fever reduction. It addresses various types of mild to moderate pain and also helps reduce inflammation.

Here are some frequently asked questions about Ibugesic Plus Tablet:

What is Ibugesic Plus Tablet used for?

Ibugesic Plus Tablet is primarily used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever. It is effective for conditions such as headaches, toothaches, muscular aches, backaches, menstrual pain, joint pain, arthritis, and dental pain. It also helps in reducing inflammation.

How does Ibugesic Plus Tablet work?

This medication combines two active ingredients: Ibuprofen and Paracetamol (Acetaminophen). Ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, chemicals in the body responsible for pain and inflammation. Paracetamol acts as an analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer) by reducing pain signals to the brain and inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis to lower elevated body temperature.

What is the usual dosage for Ibugesic Plus Tablet?

For adults, the general recommendation is one tablet every 6-8 hours. However, you should not take more than four tablets in a 24-hour period. It is intended for short-term use only, typically not exceeding 3 days for fever or 4 days for pain without consulting a doctor. The tablet should be taken with food or milk to minimize stomach discomfort. Ibugesic Plus Tablets are contraindicated for children below 12 years of age or those weighing less than 40 kg.

What are the possible side effects of Ibugesic Plus Tablet?

Common side effects may include heartburn, indigestion, nausea, stomach pain, upset stomach, headache, and dizziness. More serious but less common side effects can involve stomach ulcers or bleeding (especially with long-term use), liver damage (particularly with overdose), kidney strain, and severe allergic reactions like skin rashes or breathing difficulties. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Is Ibugesic Plus Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Ibugesic Plus Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester, due to potential risks to the fetus, including heart and kidney problems, delayed labor, and increased bleeding risk for both mother and baby. Women who are trying to conceive should also avoid this medication. For breastfeeding mothers, it should be used with caution, for short durations, and at the lowest possible dose, only after consulting a doctor, as components may pass into breast milk in low concentrations.

Can I take Ibugesic Plus Tablet with other medications?

It is crucial to avoid taking Ibugesic Plus Tablet with other medicines containing paracetamol, ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs unless specifically directed by a doctor, due to the risk of additive side effects and overdose. Caution is advised when taken with blood thinners (anticoagulants), diuretics, certain antihypertensive medications (like ACE inhibitors), methotrexate, lithium, oral hypoglycemic agents, and glucocorticoids, as interactions can occur. Always inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking.

What precautions should be taken while using Ibugesic Plus Tablet?

Always take the tablet with food or milk to reduce the risk of stomach irritation. Avoid consuming alcohol while on this medication, as it significantly increases the risk of liver damage and gastrointestinal bleeding. Inform your doctor if you have a history of stomach ulcers, liver or kidney conditions, asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure, or fluid retention. Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration of treatment. It is not suitable for children under 12 years of age or those weighing less than 40 kg.

What happens if a dose of Ibugesic Plus Tablet is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should Ibugesic Plus Tablet be stored?

Ibugesic Plus Tablet should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture. The ideal storage temperature is typically between 20°C to 25°C or below 30°C. Always keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
